To be honest, it is not really a terrible experience though, especially if the rumors were either mean or offense-intended. In my case, it is simply curiosity and bs talking, which I find rather funny than annoying.
Since I have always remained uninvolving at college, I can't really blame my classmates for becoming a little too nosy. Imagine you see someone at class everyday, who is friendly enough to exchange some small talks with everyone but detached enough to never let you be any closer to her than an acquaintance. It is even worse as she doesn't try to hide herself, either. You seem to know everything about her but at the same time, nothing at all.
I must be a living contradict in their eyes: my grades are terrible but I speak 2 languages, which is completely opposite to them. I write with my left hand, which is nothing unusual but is, again, a distinctive difference from those around. I play music but perform poorly in PE class. I solve a cubik cube in Macroeconomy class, translating Chinese novels in others and literally make no effort in networking. In short, I just don't belong to their world. They are struggling in a material world, craving for more practical assets, and here I am, doing whatever I like. "Why on Earth could that girl be so carefree?", they wonder.
Last week, I made a phone call to my mom, right in the class. I told her my CHINESE TUTOR was busy the other day so I had to study that day. And the next thing I knew was that I were from an extremely rich family, which could afford my private classes and maybe, my carefree attitude. I'm glad that they have come up with a reasonable conclusion though. I didn't try to correct them, either, since I am that mysterious girl who would not reveal a thing about herself.
