Thump. Thump. Thump.
Mina's heart raced as the taxi cab drew closer and closer to their destination. Even Sana's never-ending chatter was drowned out as her heartbeat echoed loudly inside her head. Why was she so nervous?
She was just dropping by to visit a friend.
At least that's what she tried to convince herself she was doing. She chose to ignore how visiting this friend meant that she had to wear dark clothing, a long scarf, a large face mask, and an even larger hood draped low to hide her face.
How visiting this friend meant that she had to lie to her managers and convince them that she and Sana were simply out for a "girls' night", and for once, didn't need supervision.
How visiting this friend meant that she had to take an inconspicuous taxi cab to her destination.
How visiting this friend made her heart leap with nerves and ... Wait what? That sounded way too sappy for her to say. She'd never even been in a relationship before. Not that she was thinking about having relationships... Right?
She pushed these thoughts out of her head as they pulled up to the curb.
Under the darkness of night, she and Sana slipped out of the taxi cab. Carefully, they made sure to avoid walking directly under the columns of light from the streetlamps stationed along the sidewalk. The only sounds to be heard were the soft pitter-patter of their footsteps on the gravel and the quiet chatter of crickets in the nighttime air. Even the usually talkative Sana was silent from the moment she left the taxi, understanding just how important it was for them to remain unseen and unheard.
Only a little longer. Mina tried to calm herself down, chanting that mantra over and over in her head. Jimin and his group members lived in one of the most secure apartment complexes in Korea. She knew that they would be safe as soon as they were inside those gates. She peeked out from under the cover of her hood; eyes searching for a lone figure in the dark. Jimin had promised that he'd meet her at the barrier gate to let her in.
Her pulse quickened as they neared the entrance. Mina trained her eyes downwards at the sidewalk, too anxious to look up. She steeled herself and picked up the pace. Mina had been here before with Jimin, and so far, hadn't been caught. But who knows? Maybe her luck will run out. If they were spotted here, they would never hear the end of it. They could lose everything. She gripped Sana's hand as they marched forward together. It was so silent that at the sound of a familiar voice, they both jolted with panic.
"M-Mina?" A voice called out, quietly. Mina gasped and whipped her head upwards. Just up ahead, she spotted a silhouette hidden in the shadows. The figure stepped into the yellow light of the streetlamp and offered her a shy smile.
"Jimin?" she called out tentatively. With an embarrassed glance at Sana, she quickly corrected herself. Clearing her throat, she spoke louder. "Jimin sunbae-nim." At her formality, his smile faltered, but quickly reappeared as they stepped closer.
Jimin quickly waved at Sana before turning back to Mina, who squirmed under his gaze. She waited for him to say something or lead them into the apartment, but he simply continued to stare at her with a giddy sort of grin on his face.
1 second...
2 seconds...
Sana loudly cleared her throat with mock awkwardness, smirking behind her fist. But, it was enough to snap him out of his reverie.
"Oh, sorry!" He apologized, bashfully running a hand through his hair. "I - I just can't believe that you actually came!"
"Well, why wouldn't we come?" Mina replied, confused.
