The girls sat frozen on the living room sofa. Each were stunned at the whirlwind of a day they all had. Sana was the most visibly shaken, as her hands itched towards her phone to check social media. She wanted to know what people were saying. Were they catching on to what was happening? Or did they all see it as a mere coincidence? She had to know, and the suspense was killing her.
However, every idol knew that checking the news was poisonous. It never led to anything good. So here they were, trying their hardest to resist the urge. As soon as she stepped within the threshold of their home, Mina had shoved her phone unceremoniously inside her bedside drawer, so as to prevent herself from taking a look. The nine girls had wordlessly met in the living room, trying to wrap their heads around what just occurred and what had yet to come.
"So," Jeongyeon broke the silence. "That just happened."
Nayeon nodded. "What are the chances?"
"One in a million." Jeongyeon sighed, groaning into her hands. It was an obvious pun, meant to cheer everyone up just a little, but no one was in the mood to laugh. The joke fell flat.
"I can't stand it anymore." Sana blurted out. "I'm going to check."
"No, don't..." The others feebly tried to stop her and yet, they too, were sickly curious.
Nine faces crowded around the tiny screen as they finally took a look.
It was bad.
But on the plus side, it wasn't as terrible as it could have been. Mina sighed with relief. A sparse selection of comments seemed to suggest that something was going on between the groups, yet they were few and far between. At least she didn't have to worry about that.
Instead, netizens chose to pick at how the situation was handled. They berated the staff for not interfering, the MCs for forgetting to do their jobs. But the brunt of their malicious attacks were directed towards Sana. Fans were upset that she had "handled his dog without his permission", or that she "interrupted the entire show". Such comments were absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical. Merely the result of people wanting someone to blame, but not taking the time to think through their accusations. And yet, that did not mean they hurt any less.
Sana groaned, letting the phone fall into her lap. Jeongyeon rubbed soothing circles onto her back. "Come on, Sana." Jeongyeon tried to assure her. "Look, it isn't so bad. Some people just think it was funny."
"I know, I know." Sana muttered. Mina took Sana's phone from her lap, trying to isolate all of them from the unspoken oppression. Suddenly, the phone buzzed frantically. Mina's head snapped towards the screen in surprise. Text messages blew up the handheld device, and after taking a quick look at the contact name, Mina handed the phone back to Sana.
"It's from Taehyung."
Sana's eyes widened curiously. She tapped on the screen and read the constant flow of texts.
Sana
Are you okay?
You know the things people say aren't true.
They don't even make sense.

There were so many she still hadn't read and it surprised her how fast he was able to type it all up. She scrolled to the end, where a different subject was waiting for her.
