It was supposed to be quick.
Get in. Take the cat. Get out.
That was not what had happened.
Personally, Jimin was positively mortified at what Sana said. His face was aflame as he was shoved inside their apartment. It was cozy and very lived-in, yet it was weird being inside someone else's house. He suddenly found himself the center of attention for 8 other girls, who either gave him a smile and a wave, or a mild look of suspicion. Luckily, he was saved by none other than Yeontan himself, who decided that now was a perfect opportunity to jump out of Taehyung's arms and barrel straight towards whoever caught his eye. That person happened to be Sana, who had her back turned as she locked the door.
In a flash, she was on the floor with an overly excited puppy on top of her. The room was filled with light, easy laughter as they made fun of her misfortune. Scooping Yeontan up in her arms, Sana accepted Taehyung's help as he kneeled down to give her a hand.
As the others were distracted, Jimin took the opportunity to stare at Mina out of the corner of his eyes. She still stood right next to him as she watched the scene before them unfold. He couldn't tell what she was thinking from her facial expression. Jimin was still more red than he'd ever been due to such explicit embarrassment from their friends. And yet, Mina didn't look the slightest bit disturbed. Her face, which had been bright red just moments ago, was now back to pale perfection. He watched as she she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. If she felt embarrassed, she did a good job of hiding it. Closing his eyes, he was determined to intensely fight down the heat across his face and neck.
His eyebrows scrunched as he breathed deeply. Jimin only stopped when he heard a small giggle. His eyes shot open as he turned to find Mina looking right at him.
"What are you doing?" she smiled. That did not help, as he turned bright red all over again.
"U-Uh, nothing. Just... Thinking?" He spluttered. Fortunately, Mina seemed to take that as a reasonable excuse.
Hours later, Jimin found himself still at their house. The large group had migrated to the sofa. He and Mina sat side by side, watching everyone engage in lazy, light conversation. Taehyung and Sana were still chatting happily with each other, having not stopped even for a moment since they got settled. Yeontan had since decided that Sana might be his favourite human. Taehyung laughed at the two of them as his puppy jumped all over her, jokingly saying that he "felt neglected".
Minutes turned into hours and as a form of hospitality, Jimin and Taehyung were invited to stay for dinner.
"Please stay, we're thankful that you were such a nice friend to Mina." Nayeon tried to reason with them.
"Oh no, we couldn't impose like that." Jimin replied.
"No one's imposing here! We'd be happy to have you stay and eat with us. That is... If it's alright with you guys?"
Jimin exchanged apprehensive look with Taehyung. Should they? It's not that he didn't want to stay. In fact, he would love to get to know them more. They seemed really nice. Jimin just didn't want to seem like a burden. He was about to politely decline again when Mina piped up.
"Please?"
He looked to his right and met her gaze. Were her eyes always that bright? Suddenly, he found himself surrounded by cheers. As it turns out, he must've nodded his head subconsciously in agreement as he maintained eye contact with her. Oops, how did that happen?
Jihyo and Mina made a beeline towards the kitchen. Mina started pulling out ingredients from their many cabinets while Jihyo sat at the kitchen counter and leafed through delivery pamphlets. Meanwhile, the other five girls continued to spoil the two pets rotten, eagerly watching as Minmin and Yeontan chased each other around the room. It was a perfect picture. A serene moment. That is, it was, until the door bell rang.
"I got it!" Jihyo called out, as she got up from her seat to answer the door. Jimin took little notice of this until he heard simultaneous gasps. Whipping around, his eyes widened. Jihyo had opened the door only to find the other members of BTS in the corridor. A very surprised RM was at the forefront of the group, alongside a mildly nervous Jungkook.
"Oh! I've seen you before. You're from... TWICE?" RM exclaimed.
"Uh, yeah. I am." Jihyo said, slowly. She glanced backwards in an attempt to catch Jimin's eye.
"Sorry to bother you, but are Jimin and Taehyung here?" Finally taking the cue, the two guys scrambled to their feet and rushed to meet them at the door. Jihyo stepped into the background to let them talk.
"What is going on?" RM demanded as Jihyo backed out of earshot.
"Uh-..." Jimin and Taehyung didn't know where to start or how to explain. Jungkook quipped up before they could formulate a response.
"Sorry- I couldn't... I didn't," he muttered, looking at them with his signature doe eyes. Jimin only nodded in understanding. Jungkook couldn't tell lies, and so when asked where Jimin and Taehyung were, he probably blurted out an address right away. It also seemed as if he'd forgotten to tell RM what this place was. The other members of BTS seemed mildly flustered at the sight of another idol. They obviously hadn't known this was someone's dorm. Whoops.
"Well, we were just coming over to pick Minmin back up."
"And picking up a cat takes 4 hours?"
"Well, no. But we decided it wouldn't hurt to stay a while."
"So that's why you decided that skipping practice was a good idea?"
Oh shoot.
Jimin and Taehyung looked at each other in horror. With all the excitement, they'd forgotten all about rehearsals. Scratching the back of his neck awkwardly, Taehyung sighed. "Ha... Oops, I guess we both forgot?"
RM shook his head in what looked like disappointment, but surprised them with a smile afterwards. "It's alright, you didn't mean to."
Relief flooded his body as he chuckled nervously. At that moment Jihyo stepped forward. "Would you like to stay for dinner?"
The other five members of BTS mirrored each other with their eyes wide open. "Oh no we shouldn't-"
"It's alright, Jimin and Taehyung are staying." She winked.
"You are ?" RM asked, incredulously. Jimin only smiled and shrugged in response. In a flash, the five boys were being ushered in and greetings were exchanged. Jimin wasn't going to lie. It was awkward. The other girls in the room were surprised to see them and immediately jumped up and offered them seats. BTS, on the other hand, frantically declined and assured them that they were fine, despite standing like penguins huddled together in a snowstorm. When no one moved, uncomfortable silence ensued.
Jimin caught Mina's eye and smiled at her. They could remember when they were that awkward around each other. Jimin decided to take initiative and started with standard introductions. Everyone quickly piped up as they went around the circle. Problem was, after they were done, the situation reverted to how it was before. Absolutely silent.
But, like the saviours that they were, Yeontan and Minmin decided at that very moment to cause a scene. With a loud crash, they chased each other around, unceremoniously knocking a pile of books, Mina's knitting project, and a mercifully empty mug to the ground. With the shared laughter that proceeded, the two groups finally started to actually mingle. Sure, it wasn't very fluid, but it gradually got better.
A few people offered to help with the food while the others struck up conversation. In half an hour, that light small-talk turned into genuine chatter. It was with large smiles that everyone sat down at the dinner table soon after. Their friends giggled and forced Jimin and Mina to sit together. They turned red as a tomato, but were glad nonetheless. As the night went on, the sixteen friends grew closer with the presence of good food and great conversation.
As he finished his meal, Jimin sighed and surveyed the room, looking around at all of his friends; both old and new. With enough food, laughter, and smiles to last a lifetime, he couldn't help but feel a sense of joy well up inside his chest. He caught Mina's gaze for the thousandth time that day, and she offered him a small smile.
Yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
