Episode 32: M a r k i n g s
It was burning the skin off of me. The heat was immense and raging but all I could do was freeze in place as I saw the dark entity take on an ominous figure. Grandma plopped down to the floor and my mouth let out a small tremble followed by a choked up gasp.
Not this again.
"Who...who are you?" I managed to croak without being consumed by the overwhelming power taking form.
"Who am I?" Its twisted raspy voice chuckled. My eyes slowly adjusted to the figure but no matter how much I focused it felt like my body was drugged--barely able to keep myself awake. It felt like my consciousness was floating in a pool of uncertainty and anxiety."Guess."
In the second his mismatched eyes locked on to mine my knees buckled together. I fell down to the wooden floor but my gaze was fixed in a trance that felt close to death. It was impossible to look away or even try to move my eyes balls to the side. My own breathing became shallow as if the very oxygen in the air was being sucked up by the dark entity surrounding his bare pale body. If this lasted any longer, I wasn't just going to melt to death from this heat. I was going to suffocate to death.
Why...why am I seeing this again. Why now! Why does it have to be this cursed nightmare?!
The darkness soon cleared away from the rest of his face and just before I could process it, his body stood right in front of me.
I didn't realize when he had even taken the first step, or when my eyes were looking at the background where Grandma was helplessly sprawled against. It was the after effect of the strong gust of wind that got me on guard, but it was too late.
He was here. Close. So close that the blond strands of his hair waved across his eyes before settling back down on his head.
A black feather danced down before my eyes and landed on his bare thigh as he crouched down on one knee. With a slow motion, his hand extended out to push back a strand of my hair that got blown by the wind.
"Now. Who in the world could I be?" His raspy voice harshly whispered into my ear, sending an electric shock that had me leaping out of my skin for a second.
I couldn't turn my face. No matter what. I couldn't turn it to see who he was. My neck was stiff as a statue.
A jolt awakened through my body as his hand touched the side of my abdomen.
My mark. Was he purposely hovering over that mark?
"Time for you to wake up now, love."
My eyes adjusted to the white ceiling view above me. For a while, I just laid in my bed surrounded by the scent of my own sweat and the sound of the fake morning birds chirping a fake tune. That dream. It wasn't the first time I had it, but it was the first time I had been so close to seeing him. The figure that killed grandma.
A sharp jolt in my side forced out a small yelp from me as I sat up and clutched the mark on my skin. I slowly lifted up my shirt, staring at its dark red pigment.
"What the hell..." My eyes suddenly widened as the mark glowed. It was as quick as a second, but I could have sworn that the star-shaped outline sparked with a black flame and then suddenly disappeared.
