Episode 44: S e r a

The atmosphere darkened inside the underground room. My eyes locked onto Leyla's untrusting eye.

"And what might you two be doing here? I have nothing to offer for an abomination and her demon friend." She started out very cut-throat.

"You're one to speak. You can think of me however you want, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only hateful person in this room with you here. I came asking for a favor and I know you can help me."

"Oh? You think I'd agree to your terms so easily?" She mocked me. Jungkook restlessly shuffled in place beside me. He seemed too timid to speak up to Suga's mother, but at the same time I knew he was also dying to speak up to her like his other brothers would.

"You've done it once. I know you can help me again. Please." Honestly, I came prepared to beg her. I knew that I had nothing to offer—even though I was asking a cruel witch for a favor. If anything, I can at least try to be polite and persuasive.

She threw her head back and cackled. I let the perky vibrations bounce around the empty darkness until they faded. Then, my face grew serious. This was more important than anything right now. There's no way I am leaving tonight without something that can help V maintain his control over Envy. After all I've seen him go through just to simply stay sane, it was the least I can do to give back for what he's done to protect me.

"Girl, the world doesn't work on kindness. For me to grant your wish you must give something in return."

I narrowed my eyes at her, cautiously heeding Suga and Namjoon's advice about her conniving games. If this was one of them, then what could she possibly want? A sheep's heart? A lock of a little girl's hair?

"What do you possibly expect me to give you in return?"

Her black lips stretch up into a smirk. "Ah! A beautiful and wonderful enigma like you, someone of your kind that rarely flourishes on this land, it would be foolish to not know what you are capable of giving me."

"Sorry, you need to speak like we're in the twenty-first century." I cleared my throat, trying to not feel like a dumbass.

"Dear, you have much to give. But, I suppose something about you had made me willing to heed your wishes. So, what is it that you want, my gal?"

I widened my eyes at her. "Really? You're going to actually help me?"

"Ask her before its too late," Jungkook quickly whispered to me. I nodded and looked back at her relaxed expression.

"I-Is it possible that you can help V suppress Envy?" Her face immediately twisted into a sour expression.

"That spiteful bastard?!" She scoffed. "Help him? I'd rather watch him suffer for eternity."

"Please!" I begged her. "I don't know what he's done to make you feel this way about him, but I know that he's different than the person he makes himself out to be. Right now he's suffering all alone and I want to help."

She sat back down in her throne but her scowled didn't leave her face. "I suppose once he was a different man, but the person he has become today is someone I truly despise, girl."

"Please." I went down on my knees. "If there's anything you can do, please. I beg you to set aside your feelings for now. I don't know anyone else who can help but you. So please, help me with anything that can control Envy."

A dark silence grew over us in the room. I could feel her lingering stare pierce into me.

"Oh get up! They'll say the old Witch made the little girl cry again!" She tutted with a relaxed voice. Slowly, I lifted my head and Jungkook kindly reached his hand out for me to take. I got up and dusted my knees off, looking back at her with a hopeful expression.
