◎ The best friends and the stars ◎

I'm in a bad mood and feeling angsty it's 5 AM I've had no sleep and I am moody so here you go 😂

Lips chapped, eyes red and hood up, Chaehyun sat on top of the roof of his grandparents home. He hadn't contacted any of the NCT boys to let them know where he was, heck he hadn't even told his grandparents he was sitting on their roof. He hadn't texted Yeri, nor had he texted anybody else, he just wanted to be alone.

The cold March air seeped through his jumper, sliding down his skin leaving a trail of goosebumps behind. The sun was starting to set closing the day and opening up the night. The gum in his mouth had lost its taste and he sighed to himself.

He wasn't happy.

He had clung on tightly to the small bit of happiness like a raindrop clinging to a cloud, but it has to rain and the raindrops have to fall and so did he. He fell back into the pit of sadness in despair, the small bit of happiness vanishing into thin air.

He knew these emotions would pass, that this was just another bad day but in the moment he felt like he was drowning and every breath he took was his last. Us knew he'd be able to resurface and breath again soon, but for now he was just left to struggle against the wave of emotions that covered him.

He felt selfish; he knew he should've been happy. He now had a girlfriend, he had the boys who loved him dearly, he had Lucas, his family but it just felt like there was a chunk of him missing. The missing part of the puzzle that made up his heart. The pieces fit together but there was one part lost and he didn't think he would ever find it.

Chaehyun had a mind deeper than most care to swim. His mind was like an ocean; one that was drowning him. His doubts combined with his insecurities filled him to the brim and one drop of all of his memories and he was overflowing.

"You can't just run away like that you know." Chaehyun jolted slightly but he never turned around. A sigh sounded from beside him before the patter of footsteps met his ears. "You worry me sometimes, idiot."

"I do a lot of foolish things, it's a winder why I'm still liked. Well actually, I wouldn't be surprised if no one did like me." Chaehyun chuckled bitterly, eyes narrowing as he took in the sight in the distance.

"Don't be stupid, you are liked. You're loved, where is this coming from?" Chaehyun only shrugged in response. "You haven't been the same since-"

"I haven't been the same since my fucking parents—" Chaehyun halted, he never brought up what his parents did, never. "Since my parents. It's just another bad day, I'll be okay soon. It's stupid."

"If it's causing you pain emotionally then no, it's not stupid." Chaehyun's eyes dropped down and his lip got trapped between his teeth. "You can talk to me you know, is this about Yeri? Are you having second thoughts?"

"No! No, this has nothing to do with Yeri it's just hard to explain."

"I won't push you, but I need you to know I'm here. Always and forever, no matter what. I could be all the way back in China and I'd still jump on a plane if you needed me, you know that right?" Chaehyun turned to face his best friend and for the first time that day, he smiled.

"Yeah. Yeah, I know that very well."

Lucas looked down at his hands and sighed, "can I ask you something? But don't laugh at me-"

"Shoot. I promise i won't laugh."

"Promise me that Yeri won't replace me."

Chaehyun felt shocked. Out of all the things he expected Lucas to have said, he never expected him to say that. Looking into his eyes, he saw the genuine worry and sadness and that made Chaehyun question just how afraid Lucas was of getting replaced. Chaehyun chuckled and threw his arms around his best friend.

"You are irreplaceable. No girlfriend will ever come before you, I promise. Yeri knows that." Lucas didn't know why he suddenly felt the need to cry but as he sunk down into his best friends shoulder, he let out a quiet sob which alarmed Chaehyun.

"I just-I feel like we haven't been as close lately and I feel so stupid for getting jealous over your girlfriend."

Chaehyun pulled away and wiped the tears off of his best friends face. "Be honest, did you even want me to date Yeri in the first place or were you just doing that to make me happy?"

Lucas sighed. "Both. I'd never ever not be happy for you or say I don't want you to do things but I will admit I didn't really feel the best when you two started to hang out a lot more without me. I know she's your girlfriend but it's always been me and you and the guys. I'm used to sharing with them but I've never had to share you this much as we weren't close when you started dating Dahyun. It's stupid."

"If it's bothering you, it's not stupid."

Lucas sighed and nodded. "I'm not going anywhere and you know what? For the rest of this week it's just me and you and maybe the guys. My girlfriend won't be mentioned and it will be like old times, yeah? And by old times I mean last week."

The two boys chuckled and Lucas nodded. "Thank you, Chae."

"You're more than welcome."

For the next two hours the boys stayed on the roof, talking about everything and nothing. In each other's company, just the two of them alone like it used to be. The two best friends which melted everyone's hearts, the stars and quiet sounds of nature surrounding them.

And that's all they needed until Chaehyun almost pushed Lucas off of the roof...typical.
