Cori POV
It’s 6 am and it’s been about two weeks since I last talked to D. He’s been calling me three times and day and he still sends me good morning and goodnight texts. I was already awake but I continued to lay in my bed. My door opened and I felt a body sit next to me. Must be my dad.
“Don’t touch me. I’m already up.” I said still laying down. I’m not a morning person.
“Get up and get dressed.” He said.
I sighed and rolled out of the bed. Literally. I laid on the floor for a little bit before standing up.
“Your mom is down stairs cooking breakfast.” He said walking to the door.
“Why is she up so early? It’s 6 a.m. The last time she got up this early was my first day of school. Is she okay?” I asked worriedly.
“Relax princess. She just wanted to make breakfast.” He said before walking out. He closed the door behind him and my phone rang. Of course…It’s D. I just let the phone ring and started to get ready for my day.
--------------------
After I put my hair up in a bun, I sprayed some perfume, grabbed my phone and my back pack, and walked out of my room. I walked down the stairs… yes, walked. I got my cast off a couple days ago… I walked won the stairs and into the kitchen. “Wassup!?” I said throwing up gang signs.
“Hey good mo—” My mom stopped mid-sentence. “You look just like me. I mean, you always look like me...but today you look just like me.” She said.
“It’s probably the bun.” I said.
“Yeah. And my gold chain you have around your neck.” She said.
“I guess.”
She looked over the counter top. “And you have on my shoes.” She said.
“Yup.” I said sitting. She put a plate of food in front of me.
“Don’t get my shoes dirty Cori.” She said.
“I won’t Mrs. Carter.” I said picking up a piece of bacon.
“Has he called you yet?” she asked.
“Yeah. He called around 6.” I said.
“You still giving him to silent treatment?” She asked.
“Well yes and no. More no.”
“Go on.”
“I don’t answer his calls but I do read the messages he sends me. He knows that I’ve been reading them. So in a way that is communication right?” I asked biting into my toast.
“You need to talk to him.”
My phone vibrated…good morning text. I read it and smiled. Yes, I’m mad at him, he hurt me, but I love this boy. I sat my phone down on table and my mom picked it up. I rolled my eyes and sucked my teeth. I fucking hate when she does that. I’m almost 17, I think I deserve some amount of privacy.
“Cori, don’t get slapped. Suck your teeth again and I’m gone punch them out your mouth.”
“Sorry. I just hate when you go through my stuff. My phone is the only thing I have that actually belongs to me.” I said.
“False.” She said.
I smiled a little.
“You don’t have anything that ‘belongs’ to you. We (Bey and Jay) pay the bills. The phone bill, the car note, the electricity, the water, the cable…Everything belongs to us. Including you and Blue. Until you get your own house and pay your own bills you have no privacy. Privacy is a privilege.” She said.
