Cori POV

Well, it’s been another two weeks so it’s now October. It’s Thursday but my school has something called a Geo-Tech Conference going on, so we had a half day and we don’t have school tomorrow or Monday.

Everything is good around here, well almost everything. Did you know that when Laurent told my mom we were just going on a date as friends he meant it?  Yup. Just friends. That’s great for my mom and my dad, but...I don’t know, it’s not like I have feelings for him. It’s been two weeks and he’s talking to someone. He’s talking to this girl and he said she’s famous. I don’t know her, my daddy don’t know her, even my momma don’t know her, so she must not be that famous. But that’s none of my business. *sips tea*

“Cori, Laurent is here.” My mom said coming in my room. “And he brought a friend.” She said raising her eyebrow.

“Is she pretty?” I asked sitting down in front of my vanity mirror. I took my hair out of its bun, it spiraled down my back.

“I would be lying if I said she wasn’t.” My mom said.

“How old is she?” I asked applying lip gloss and eye liner.

“I have no idea. You can ask her when you get down there.” She said rubbing her stomach. I chuckled.

“My little brother kicking again?” I asked still sitting. “Yes, the baby is kicking. And I’m not telling you what it is.” She said.

“Well hopefully it’s a boy. How do I look?” I said standing up.

“Like me.” She said. “Let’s go down stairs. The faster we get down there the faster she can leave. And I know you don’t want her over here but fix your face. I’m not telling you to be fake, but I am telling you to be nice. Understand?” She asked.

“Yes.” I said. I walked out the room first and down the stairs.

“Hey everyone.” I said reaching the bottom of the stair case. My dad stood up and so did Laurent. Laurent walked over to me and gave me a hug. He smells so good. He let go and I followed him to what I assume to be his girlfriend. “Jerica, this is my best friend Cori. Cori, this is my girlfriend Jerica.” He said.

I’m not gonna lie. She is beautiful. She looks like Nia Long but taller. I held out my hand. “Nice to meet you Jerica.” I said.

“Likewise. You are very pretty.” She said. She sounded genuine. “Thank you, so are you.” I said.

There was an awkward silence. “Cori, there are refreshments in the Kitchen. DO you mind getting them for our guest?” My mom asked.

“Not a problem at all.” I said.

“I’ll help you.” Laurent said.

I turned on my heel and walked toward the kitchen with Laurent right behind me. When we got in there he was the first to speak.  “Look, I’m sorry if this made you uncomfortable but you’re my best friend. I wanted you to meet her.” He said.

“I’m not uncomfortable, this is my house.” I said putting grapes on a plate.

“What do you think about her so far?”

“I don’t know. I barley said a sentence to her.”

“Cori.”

“She is very pretty.” I said putting cheese and crackers around the grapes. “But how old is she?”

“She’s 24.”

“That’s nice.”

“You’re not mad that I brought her to your house are you?”
