Her eyes looked to ground, with her head throbbing. She didn't bother to try and ease the pain. Because the pain she felt wasn't comparable to the pain she felt in her heart. And as cliche as that sounded, Nova didn't just feel her heart hurting like a needle was punching at it. It felt like someone was squeezing it in their palm, til the point where she was feeling too light headed, too breathless.
Clint held her closely to his side. He held onto the soul stone, that shined a bright yellow in his hands. While Novas hands were stained with blood. Neither had said a word either when they gotten the stone. They sat there inside the Avengers Institution, in front of the quantum plate waiting for everyone to arrive since they had gotten out of the planet before everyone else.
The girl was too lost in her thoughts with her fucked up mind replaying the scene of Natasha falling over and over that she didn't hear the huge quantum plate make a big sound indicating her friends were back,"Did we get them all?"
"Are you telling me this actually worked?"
Clint had hopped off the seat, with his arm wrapped around Novas waist. He hadn't let her go. It was like he was afraid that she would fall out of his hands as well.
"Clint, Nova, where's Nat?" Bruce questioned.
Nova's face was covered by her hair, and she was thankful it was. She knew her eyes were swollen from all the tears that she cried out. So she kept quiet with Clint doing the same.
Then, she had heard a bang. That's when she knew that they had all figured what happened to Nat.
At some point, Tony had offered to take Nova away from Clint to get her wound cleaned up. Nova didn't care and just hung onto Tony as the rest of the team other than Nebula, Scott, Rocket, and Rhodey had gathered outside to discuss of the loss of their family member.
They sat on a patio that had a bunch of tables and cushions on top of the lake.
"Do we know if she had family?" Tony lowly asked, as he finished cleaning up Novas wound.
"Yeah, us" Steve replied, lowly.
"What?" Thor suddenly questioned,
Tony stood up,"He's just answering a question" Tony said, yet Thor scoffed.
"Yeah, your acting like she's dead, why are we acting like she's dead? We have the stones, right? As long as we have the stones we can bring her back, right Capt, so stop this shit!" He snapped at Tony,"We're the Avengers, get it together!"
"We can't get her back, it can't be undone."
And then an argument happened. At some point she heard Bruce throw something. Bruce, Thor, and Clint had started a fire that was causing Nova to get pissed. Natasha wouldn't want them to be fighting. She would want them to get the job done.
"Enough, all of you!" Nova suddenly bursted out, surprising all the men, even Thor,"I want her back too! I wanted to be the one to be sacrificed but she would let me do it. So w—we have..have to make the most of it. Cause if we don't then her death would be meaningless. And it wasn't. Nat was one of the best. Her death has to be honored by us trying, okay?"
"We will" Steve promised.
Nova put her hands to my mouth, trying to keep her emotions under control but failed when a couple of tears dripped from the cornier of her eyes.
The strong agent, was shattered. And she no longer had her sister here to comfort her.
Clint had came to her side and brought her into a hug that she didn't fight back.
They all took in the emptiness of Natasha's presences no longer being there. Eventually the rest of the members left the patio one by one. Until it was the late afternoon. Where it was just Nova and Clint sitting beside each other with their legs inside the cold lake.
"There's something I have to tell you" Nova suddenly said, after a couple of hours of silence.
She didn't know how to tell him without feeling bricks of guilt hit her. But he was family, he deserved to know,"What?" He asked,
Her eyes were glued to the water with her fingers dipping into it,"Five years ago after we found out Thanos had destroyed the stones I ran off to different countries doing anything I could to distract me. I would train, learn, travel, repeat. It got bad. No matter how hard I tried to move on I just..couldn't. I wasn't able to eat, or sleep. I began to lose weight, throw up, all that. But it got really bad when one day I was in South Korea. I guess I passed out falling into the Han river. Waking up in a hospital wasn't that hard" she continued on,"However, What the doctor told me was horrifying" Her voice drifted off to a whisper.
Clint frowned, looking at her,"what did you find out?" He softly asked,
She sadly met his eyes,"That I had a miscarriage."
Clint's face froze into shock. His mouth opened wide, knowing that he was going to ask all these questions. Nova sighed, with her eyes looking at the distance of the lake.
"I..didn't even know I was pregnant" she admitted,"I was too sick to even care why I was always throwing up, or even fainting" She explained,"But it was pointless, the doctor told me that when I was brought in I was two months pregnant. They couldn't do anything to save..my baby" it felt odd even saying it, but it stuck a cord in her.
"Natasha helped me move on from it. She was there for me when I had no one, and now—" Nova stopped herself knowing if she continued on she wouldn't be able to take anymore.
Clint nodded, that he grabbed her hand. Nova sniffed her nose, ignoring the salty tears that rolled down her cheek onto her rosy lips.
She put her head on his shoulder and unexpectedly, they found themselves staying there til nighttime with the thoughts of her unborn child and Natasha on her mind.
