Ryans POV
You stand outside in an open field, the sun just about to rise for the day. In front of you are two open caskets out of three, Ana's body was severely burnt to the point that they could not show her body.
They are stacked upon a makeshift podium, and the ritual for hunters lost in battle has begun. The anger you have felt these last couple of days has turned numb, almost as if you cannot feel anything at all.
Is this what happens when you feel anger so strongly for someone. You notice Madelyn has walked up beside you, but she knows better than to grab your hand.
Even with everything that has happened, you can't forgive her. A stronger feeling of disappointment overwhelms you, maybe disappointed that you will never hear Josh's side of the "affair", if you can even call it that.
You turn to leave, not bothering to give her the time of day. You hear her sob hard as you walk up to Greg. He has a concussion from the fight but other than that, he is recovering each day. You stand beside him, watching the hunter's funeral follow tradition.
Peter comes up from a group of hunters and stands beside his brother. He is well known in the hunter's society, jumping ranks left, right, and center. It almost kills you the amount of jealousy you have towards Peter.
You watch as they bring the torches down onto the podium, catching fire easily. The caskets go up in flames fast, burning with a large, strong blaze, as the sun begins to rise, eating up the dark blue, creating a soft, orange glow that works with the fire burning brightly.
It's customary to burn the bodies of hunters, for fear they will return, undead. The ceremony continues and ends, with the clergy finishing with a prayer.
You watch the people leave, one by one, until all that are left is Greg, Maddie, Peter and you.
You feel the emptiness hard to handle, a lump forming in your throat. You promised yourself you wouldn't think of her, you promised you wouldn't think of her. You clear your mind, catching Greg's glance.
"You okay?" He asks, you nod, unable to speak.
Emi and Peter flash in your mind, the way they talk to each other, how close they were, and the kiss they shared. It makes your blood boil, your rage builds to an uncontrollable anger, and you end up lashing out, quickly making your way to Peter, grabbing him by the collar.
He makes no effort to stop you and that makes you even angrier. Peter gives you an unamused look, "You - You, she's gone!" you spit, words seeming to not come out as planned.
You clench the collar to his suit tighter, as Peter remains calm, unfazed by your outburst. Your hands slip, as tears blind your vision. You feel lost, unsure where to go from here.
