Rue Scarce

I made sure to clean the mess before leaving for the flight.

I threw the bodies by a dark river and went back to my hotel room without any problems. Those men came by the halls, watching my every move and so I dressed myself up and went outside to pursue them.

Simultaneously, their lives ended up being sent to oblivion in my hands. Dimitri certainly did send them, only that those guards completely forgot who I am.

An impudent desecration really. It is a stain on my name when they had the audacity to face me without their master's permission.

Moving on, Vindik and I rode the private jet without uttering words. I suppose our controversy the night before may have left a large hole between us. Dare I say, a very considerable distance.

Unlike before, we didn't take our seats sitting in front of each other, but Mr Vindik Riot sat at the very corner of the room far from me.

Though it is better this way, I felt a hollow emptiness in my chest that I can't seem to point out.

I gazed at his sitting frame far from me and unlike before, he wasn't looking at me. An unusual behavior that he hasn't shown me up until now.

His face was expressionless, I can't understand any of his thoughts ever since we've met but today is more different. He wasn't drinking beer nor any kind of alcohol beverages, instead he drank water and kept looking at the window.

He didn't speak to me after our dispute last night, not even a small greeting. It feels like we don't know each other, and believe me when I say he knows almost everything about me more than anyone else.

I gripped the armrest with my other hand clenched into a fist. I have to think rationally about this situation, but knowing this man he is enigmatic as an anonymous writer. Come to think of it I don't know him that well, and I don't plan on knowing more.

I looked away from his build and looked at my clenched fist with my heart pounding on a fast pace. Dimitri knows where I am, he may have sent men to follow me and my life is in danger yet again.

I'll have to debate on whether I'll stay in New York for long or leave. By leaving my job it would mean forfeiting the main reason why I decided to run in the first place.

I sighed, counting numbers in my mind.

If I arrive at my apartment without noticing anything different, I might consider the former rather than the latter.

"Now this situation is a heavy burden." Sheer pondered, pushing thin pieces of potato chips in her mouth with a satisfying crunch as she chewed on.

"Who would have thought that going on a business trip with your hot temporary boss would end up in haywire?"

I rolled my eyes at her as the crunching munches kept vibrating through my head.

"You do know who your primary target is now, don't you?" She asked, finally turning her attention to me.

"I only have an inkling of the faceless leader of the Montreal Organization." I answered, looking straight at the wall.

"Hmm, Fierce Montreal. No one from outside his organization has ever seen him nor lived to tell anyone. But if you only have a simple assumption it may be wrong. And if you did guess correctly, his identity will do you no good since he isn't your initial objective."

"I know. That is why I can't leave this place yet. He may lead me to the amateur assassin I have been looking forward to meet."

The woman hummed softly and leaned her back over the sofa.
