Rue Scarce

It can't be... This is worse that I thought.

Children? That must be why the man fed me and made sure I was fine physically. It was so my body could be sold to rich people like them.

I must be very shocked because I didn't hear anyone coming from behind me. A large hand cupped my mouth and held both of my hands behind me to make sure I wasn't going anywhere.

"You know, it's bad for a child to stick their nose where it doesn't belong."

I felt myself being thrown across the room after a man I am not familiar with grabbed me from the scene. I let out a gasp when my back hit the wall and faced the floor.

I coughed up at the impact and I tried so hard not to groan. I can't satisfy them with my pain.

"This fucking bitch escaped the cells and locked Benz with a broken leg and concussion. This kid deserves a beating, boss."  The man who took me here spoke with mischief in his voice.

I slowly looked up to find myself in the same office I went to earlier but this time, another man wearing a blue coat and long pants stood in front of me.

He has long brown hair tied behind him in a pony tail and had a pipe between his lips as he looked down on me.

"Get up." He ordered.

Reluctantly, I stood on my feet, looking up at him with a blank expression.

His brown eyes studied me for a while, angling his head to the side then his gaze went from my feet and back to my face.

"Is this the kid Benz picked from the streets a week ago?" He asked the other man without taking his eyes off of me.

"Yes, boss. Found her half dead by the alley. She must be a survivor from the orphanage that got burned down. It's strange since the report said there were no survivors from that big assed fire but she must have escaped before the cops found her."

The man, the boss perhaps, pushed a strand of my hair off my face and raised my chin with his hand.

"She looks like a child of an elite. You're sure she came from the orphanage?"

"I'm sure, boss. The clothes she had that day had ashes and the smell of fire on them. She also had coal marks on her legs."

"Hmm." The boss had a weird grin on his face that it gave me the creeps.

"What's your name, girl?" He demanded.

"Snow." I simply replied.

I see a hand about to slap me in the face but the boss held his hand out to stop it from hitting my cheek.

"Be patient, Lake. We need her face unless you plan to be sold instead." He said with a dangerous tone that made the other man step back and looked down.

"I'm sorry, boss." The man named Lake apologized before giving me a look that says he'll kill me next time I speak without knowing my place.

"Well, Snow, can you tell me how you got Benz injured?" The boss asked with an emotionless tone, inhaling through his pipe now and then.

"I broke his leg with the door and got him hit his head on the wall."

Lake scoffed and let out a big laugh, saying he doesn't believe me.
