Rue Scarce

Candice dragged me around, introducing me to every person we passed by. There are at least sixty people in this place, fortunately almost forty of them are their relatives.

"Mom, Dad!" Candice greeted a couple nearby.

They both turned to our direction and I can already see the family trait being passed on to the next generation.

The woman had light green eyes, filled with care that rarely only mothers have. She had long blonde hair that reached by her hips and a small stature that is supported by her black heels.

The man standing beside her internally scared me for no reason. He looked like Travis Stone but with black eyes and brown hair that has white strands of it here and there. He is indeed tall and intimidating but what bothered me was the look in his eyes. A look that I have only seen from the men in my world, the world of merciless killers.

"I like you to meet, Ebony Collins. She's Vindik's date, can you believe it? Vindik finally brought a presentable date."

The woman smiled at me, her eyes twinkling in excitement and mischief. She held her hand out for me to shake, her long slender fingers decorated with jewelry.

"Hi, Ebony. I'm Cindy. So you're the girl that's been the talk of the family. Are you by any chance Vindik's girlfriend?"

"Oh no, Mrs Stone. I'm just a friend." I replied with a small smile.

She arched an eyebrow but her smile and the look in her eyes didn't change.

"Call me Cindy. I have a feeling we'll get along well." She told me with a giggle and I responded with a nod.

"Oh, this is my husband, Travester."

I then turned to the intimidating man. He gave me a small smile which I doubt is anywhere near genuine and then held his hand out.

"I finally got to meet the famous Ebony. I have to say, you are a beauty, Miss Collins."

"Thank you for the compliment, Mr Stone." I greeted back.

"Hearing that name makes me feel a little old, Miss Collins. I'd prefer it if you call me Travester."

"You are getting old, dad." Mr Stone gave his daughter a glare only to slightly lift his lips up.

"Cavis and Candice here wouldn't stop talking about you, dear." I merely smiled at Cindy's statement.

"I hear you work for my son as his new secretary. He isn't working you too hard now, is he?" Travester stated.

"No, sir. Actually, he's very generous."

"Really?" The family looked at me incredulously as if not believing what I just said.

So I briefly told them about my job dilemmas, the modeling work he offered me, to the point that I quit shortly after, until the secretarial position that opened up at the same time I needed it.

"I didn't think he could be that nice. Right, honey?" Cindy looked surprised by it as she looked at her husband for confirmation.

Travester had a frown on his face and then he looked past my shoulder.

"Speak of the devil and he will arrive."

"Travis, darling." Cindy called and we all turned to see my boss walking towards us.

He greeted his father with a nod and a kiss from his mother.

"I hope you're all enjoying this evening. A pleasure to see you again, Miss Collins." He said after he saw me.
