Something more...

It was the first. The first time someone wanted to be with me not only because I am of use to him, but because he can see something not even I can see.

This man doesn't know who and what I am, that may be why he didn't run away while he still had the chance. He doesn't know anything about me, but the way he spoke, the way he looked into my eyes with a compassionate gaze told me otherwise.

It was like he understands me, like he knows what it felt like to rob you of your freedom.

Not a moment later, our noses touched and so did our foreheads. My throat went dry as I contemplated whether to lean in or do the wise thing and move away.

I can tell he was thinking the same thing because he didn't move any more closer.

We were both breathing heavily, it was like we went out for a run and our ragged breaths far from being in sync.

As if sealing his decision, Vindik moved. He is closing in. Our lips were only centimeters apart and I still have the opportunity to lean away but my body wouldn't move. I clenched my fist so tight it lost its color.

"Ebony..." He rasped. His voice so deep and husky that it was evident what he'll intends to do.

"Vindik? Ebony? Where are you?"

He stopped. Much to my relief but a part of me felt heavy, as if disappointed.

We didn't move and just stared at each other's eyes as if trying ti decipher what we'll do next.

One of the doors moved but it didn't open yet.

"What the hell? Hey, tell me. Are you guys in here?" Cavis's voice muffled through the walls.

As if my mind clicked, I finally moved my head to the side, averting Vindik's hypnotic gaze.

"We're in here, Cavis." It almost surprised me when Vindik answered.

He was still standing in front of me until Cavis unlocked the door and opened it.

"You guys okay? I heard Wendy telling me the brats locked you up here. I almost didn't believe it that you haven't broken the doors like the last time, Vindik."

My eyes widened a bit and my jaw clenched.

So he was indeed being patient just to talk to me.

I shouldn't mind but unfortunately I do.

I turned to take a look at Vindik who was busy talking to his cousin with a scowl. Like he was blaming him for something he doesn't know.

He was taller than Cavis so I can see him clearly even with his cousin's back turned on me. As if sensing my gaze, his eyes turned to me and his scowl slowly fades. He was still talking to Cavis but his eyes looks only at me.

I felt something in my chest, like my heart just pounded hard but it was only once the moment his eyes gazed on mine. Tingles ran from my neck and down to my arms like goosebumps.

I subconsciously placed a hand on my chest but I didn't break the gaze. What is this? Why do I feel like this whenever he looks at me?

"Miss Collins, are you with us?"

I snapped out of my daze when I heard my name being called. All the people in the conference room had their eyes on me and I suddenly realized that I wasn't paying attention.
