Rue Scarce

"Let's go." Vindik grumbled, moving towards his door on the driver's side.

I blinked several times before I looked at Cavis who had his lips in an oval shape before giving me a teasing smile and a thumbs up.

I rolled my eyes at him and moved towards the other side.

"Where to?" I asked Vindik as I fastened my seatbelt and he started the car.

"Just somewhere."

"This one has a high slit by the left leg. Judging by her height and complexion, no doubt this dress will look good on her legs..."

The saleslady trailed off, talking to no one in particular but I am pretty certain she's talking to Vindik..

"Beautiful dress, but I doubt she likes clothes that expose too much skin. I know I don't." He mumbles the last sentence and I heard it clearly but chose to ignore it.

I round up one corner, looking at the dresses with a scrutinizing gaze. They're all gorgeous and would fit me easily even with my pregnant state, but none of them caught my eye.

When I finally gave up the search and headed back to Vindik, I found a peculiar color in one corner. I only saw a glimpse of it but it got my attention.

I made my way towards its direction and sidestepped a few mannequins blocking my way towards it. I finally stood in front of it and the beauty almost took my breath away.

It was an off shoulder dress that reached below the knee. The upper part is black in color but it slowly faded as it reached the waist into navy blue to royal blue and by the end of the dress, the color turned to a lighter shade of blue.

It has specks of glitters sparkling like stars over the upper part. The dress doesn't show discomfort and I can tell it fits me despite the bump on my stomach.

"We'll take this, get me the bill."

Surprised at Vindik's statement, I turned to him with a frown.

"Do not pay for this."

He merely smiled, smugly and it admittedly annoyed me.

"Unfortunately sugar, I already have." He raised his card and a saleslady took it from his hand towards the cashier.

"It is not necessary and it is improper for a lady to have a man buy her dresses." I stated with the same look I wore the first few days we met ages ago.

"I think you misunderstand, Miss Secretary. Because believe it or not, gentlemen buy gifts for the ladies to wear in a party. Besides, I invited you. Isn't that how your nobility works, your ladyship." He said the last two words, mocking a slight bow and a smile on his face.

I have to admit, his answer was right, so right I didn't want to go out and say I just spoke on impulse and admit how wrong I was. I didn't want him to waste money on me but then again, it is a gentleman's duty to buy a dress for a lady.

Knowing that, I still stared at the man with a look of disapproval as he happily took the bag of my dress from the woman behind the cash register.

"Thank you, Sir and Ma'am. You look lovely together. Congratulations on the new addition." The woman said with a smile on her face that reached her eyes.

I frowned.

New addition?

Now that I think about it, she was staring at my stomach then to me and Vindik that are only a few inches apart. She thinks we're together.
