Rue Scarce

"The results are not really precise. The blood has been stained here for years so it isn't a hundred percent certain." The doctor talked but I didn't listen as shock is still evident in my mind.

"Some of the blood I detected was Miss Collins's. The other came from a man named Elijah Harrison."

Just the name froze me in my place and a different voice spoke.

"A renowned businessman who owned the Harrison Foundation that got bankrupt ten years ago. He was murdered with his family, found his head cut off from his neck. The suspect remained unknown and the case was left unsolved but it was concluded for murder."

I can feel Sheer's steel gaze at me but I didn't pay any attention on it.

"But a child survived."

I tensed.

"She was the adopted daughter of the Harrison's and was sent to an orphanage after the bankruptcy. The files stated that the child's relatives didn't want to take her in."

"And what was the child's name then?" Sheer asked.

My heart was rapidly beating that I can clearly hear it pounding. My whole body was shaking and my hands were clenched into fists that the knuckles went white with my fingertips feeling cold.

"Snow Harrison."

I wasn't speaking, not in a few hours after hearing my name... The name my adopted parents gave me.

"So, Snow huh? Beautiful name. It suits you."

I didn't respond and kept my gaze at the empty wall.

"Never knew you came from a rich family, Rue. You should have told me so I'm not the only one who suffers knowing I lived in luxury and ended up in the trash." She sighs.

"Judging from your reaction a while ago, it appears you didn't know your name up until now. No wonder you didn't want to talk about it. Your past was dark and filled with vengeance, unlike mine who lived in lies."

She kept speaking even when I didn't bother talking to her.

"Now that you know you didn't happen to forget you were an adopted child, did you?"

By that I closed my eyes as a response.

"If you didn't know all this time, it's a bit sad. But if we think about it, who are your real parents?"

I can feel my breath caught up in my throat.

"A mystery that is yet to be solved don't you think?"

That woman can't really stop running her mouth even with me.

But come to think of it, it's true that I didn't know I was adopted in the first place. All this time I thought they were my flesh and blood but now that I know, I am not sure what to feel. Though it wouldn't change anything. They are not my real family but they treated me like one.

As I tried to think, I tried to recall all my childhood memories but I couldn't remember anything. The only thing I can remember as a child was when my family died in front of me.

I still remember the times I spent in the orphanage to the fire incident that burned the whole place down and to my first kill up to me marrying the Leighton's new Head Master, but nothing earlier than that.
