Rue Scarce

Watching Mr Stone talking to the phone, I kept my mind straight and my whole body calm. He returned back from his business trip that lasted for two weeks and relieved me of my duties as a temporary secretary to his cousin.

I suppose I wouldn't see Vindik from now on. Recalling our recent encounter and our silent flight back two weeks ago, it is understandable if we won't talk again in the future.

But now that he knows the secret I have been hiding, it won't be long until Mr Stone finds out as well. He is the last man I want to reveal this secret. I have to keep myself as close as I can to him until I finish this mission, but in my condition how?

This question has been boggling me for weeks and my outward appearance is showing. By next month I will be halfway through my pregnancy stage and I won't be able to hide it any longer.

My back aches, I can feel the heaviness in my chest and most of the time my head is spinning. I knew the fifth month pregnancy has the worst effects and I also know I have to endure everything until the next few months.

"You don't look so well, Miss Collins. Are you all right?" I heard my boss asked.

I didn't notice he already ended his call with one of the managers.

"I am fine, Mr Stone. Just a random head pain." I answered, shaking my head with an unfeigned look on my face.

He was studying me with those deep green eyes that can make any woman lost in their thoughts but I felt otherwise. He was trying to determine whether I was telling him the truth or not but I know either way, it didn't mean anything. Not to him anyway.

He didn't respond and just nod his head slightly before retrieving his gaze down to his laptop's screen.

"Get me an appointment with Mr And Mrs Jacobson by lunch at exactly twelve. They already know where."

I answered with a yes and went on to dial on numbers.

"Mrs Serene Jacobson? Yes, this is Mr Stone's secretary from the Stone Entertainment. He wanted to have lunch with you and Mr Jacobson by twelve in the afternoon." I spoke and listened patiently to the answer from the other line with the woman's gentle voice.

"Mr Stone would be so pleased you can make it, Mrs Jacobson. Thank you and have a nice day." I hung the phone and later realized that the powerful man sitting in front of me kept staring at me.

"Is there something the matter, Mr Stone?" I asked, making him look from my face down to my feet.

I felt myself frozen in my spot as he did so and with a face void of emotions. When he finally locked eyes with me, he nods his head as if in approval.

"You are coming with me with this lunch date." He spoke, his voice very firm and authoritative.

I was rendered speechless and tried to open my mouth to retort but he already had another call from his phone.

He didn't pay me any more attention and went to answer the call. I closed my open mouth and slowly turned away to go back to my office just next to his.

I turned to look at the digital clock sitting by my desk and read the digits as eleven forty six. I placed my gaze down to my body to look at the simple dirty green dress that I wore under a white coat stopping by my waist, and a pair of two inched heeled black shoes hugging my feet.

I wondered why I had to eat lunch with the man who seemed to lose his interest with me the day I resigned and breached the contract as a model. Not to mention a lunch date with his college friends who I only know by their names.
