I'm Never Camping Again

As many of you know, I live in Minnesota and I am a pilot. But that's irrelevant.

In 2017, I had some off time from flying and decided to to go camping in a nearby state park. I planned to stay there for 2 nights, so I packed 2 changes of clothes, a flashlight, 10 bottles of water, peanut butter, jelly, dinner rolls, cereal, and for protection, an AR-15. For those in the comments, of course I stayed in a tent.

Day 1 of the campout was pretty normal, nothing suspicious or anything like that. I ate my dinner, 2 hot dogs, then went to sleep in my tent.

That night, I woke up while it was still dark. I checked my watch. It was 1:09 in the morning. Something had woken me up. I felt a silent threat pass over me. I grabbed my gun and headed outside my tent. As soon as I got out, I saw a tall, lanky man looking right at me from the other side of the campsite. My gun was behind by back, just so he wouldn't be suspicious.

I looked the mysterious man up and down, and saw the machete in his right hand, with dry red stains on it.

The man seemed to sense that, and stepped towards me. I could see his face. His eyes were green, but bloodshot, and he had a ski slope nose. I pulled out the AR-15, and he saw it and backed off, putting his hands up.

"Don't shoot," the man said.

"What the hell do you want," I yelled.

"Please don't shoot me," the man replied.

"Drop the machete," I said, "and I won't shoot."

He obeyed and set the machete down, his hands still up.

I took him to my car and drove him to the police station, where I turned him in. After that, I drove back to the campsite, where I left the next day.

A couple days later, I got an email from the police department thanking me for turning the man in. He was a murderer who'd sexually assaulted and killed two prostitutes. He'd broken out that night, and when I turned him in, it was like a miracle to them. They said at the end of the letter that he was gonna be in prison for a long time.
