Hello! If you've reached this chapter, it means that Paper Cranes is finally over. This has been such a wonderful writing journey, and of course I'll go back and edit it eventually, but for now, the book has been completed!
This book was inspired by a poem I wrote 2 years ago:
the feeling sinks in,
heavy, leaden, hurtful,
the chains of unrequited love
wrapped around and keeping you in placethe only thoughts are of freedom,
the only motivation is hope
willpower fueled by one thing,
"will he ever like me back?"and hanging from the walls,
from patterned paper and folded wings,
with the words of unrequited love
scrawled in tiny handwritingbut they're not on the floor,
meaning this one-sided love
can fade away,
as they are pulled up by strings,
knotted at the wingsa worn pair of hands
completes a final fold
and with thin black ink,
"i love you"So, yeah. Because of that, I ended up writing this whole book and it's been quite an emotional journey as well. Because every time I figured something out, I realized it was something that would become a part of Mae's journey as well.
And that is something else I would like to bring up—your worth isn't measured by whether someone likes you or not. You don't need someone to reciprocate your feelings in order to make you feel that you are worth it because even without that, you are worth it.
It's okay if they don't like you back, or if they're unable to be in a relationship with you. Sometimes it happens, and you just try your best to move on and put your energy elsewhere.
Romance movies make love seem so simple, but it isn't. I really thought I was in love at some point but maybe it was just affection. I didn't know and a lot of people still have no idea what it really means. It's not simple. It takes a lot of patience and understanding.Life will take you so many ways. Sometimes we don't know what to do, and that's okay. We'll figure it out as we go.
Once again, thank you so much for reading Paper Cranes. It has been an absolute pleasure writing, and thank you to my wonderful readers for all the support :)
