Peter and I were crouched behind a set of bushes in the, not-so-good side of town. I was scoping out Neil Sokolov's house in order to make sure there wasn't anybody or anything inside.
"Are you sure we should be doing this?" Peter whispered.
I didn't reply, just sighed and rolled my eyes.
"I mean, you weren't even supposed to take the rings, let alone his house keys. What if the cops wanted those?"
"If the cops wanted those, the cops would've taken them already."
"How do you know!" he whisper-yelled.
I whirled on him and stuck a finger in his chest.
"Listen. I brought you here as my partner in crime, not my parole officer. Now let's go." I said standing up and jogging across the street to the house.
I got out the keys and began to try different keys in the locks.
Peter stood behind me and began to be my lookout. I stuck in another key and turned it, there was a soft click and the doorknob turned. I opened the door and slowly walked inside, Peter behind me.
"What exactly are you looking for?" Peter asked.
"I'm looking for you to shut up!" I snapped.
He didn't say anything else, just followed me into the house.
I walked into kitchen of the house and began to take a look around. There were several notes on the fridge door. I took a look at them, they were all dates and times.
"Sir, several of these notes have the exact dates and times of some of the deals we've intercepted." Smoak said in his robotic whisper.
I nodded and took a picture with my mask, then moved to the back door in the kitchen. There was a small window that I looked out. There was a small backyard with an old wooden shed.
"We'll check that out before we leave..." I said to him, causing Peter to press his cheek up against my mask, also trying to look out the window at the same time.
"Check out what?" he whispered.
I rolled my eyes then pulled away. I went into the adjoined living room. There was a small tv, still on. The volume was on mute.
I raised my hands a little and the palm blasters powered on. I took a 360 of the room before lowering my hands.
I shuffled through the papers on the coffee table. All notes and notebooks. Dates, times, and lists of weapons.
There was a banging sound on the other side of the room, my hand snapped up and Peter jumped onto the ceiling. I saw out the window that the shutter was banging on the house due to wind.
"It's nothing. Just one of the shutters."
Peter slowly came down from the ceiling, using my shoulder as support. I sighed, then headed towards the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" he hissed.
"To check out the shed. I'm doing it now, changed my mind. Stay here. Stand guard."
Peter stood by the back door, seeming slightly nervous, shifting from foot to foot.
I made my way through the grass to the shed. I slowly opened the wooden door. It let out a loud creak.
"This place is so creepy...!" Peter whispered down the yard from the door.
I rolled my eyes and stepped into the shed.
"Smoak, flash light."
A small beam of light illuminated from the side of my helmet. As I looked up to the ceiling it lit up a string hanging from a light bulb. I pulled on it and the light bulb lit, revealing a gruesome sight.
I turned my head away from it.
Then slowly looked back.
There was a body. At the back of the shed, with chunks of its body removed, scratch and teeth marks covered its skin. It looked as though an eyeball was missing. Blood dripped down their body and onto the floor. The wall was partially covered in blood.
Their clothes were ripped and torn and no longer the same color it used to be. I winced as I saw a deep slash across their lower abdomen, revealing the organs beneath. Their arms were chained to the wall, raising them up, causing their head to lean forward.
I turned away.
I turned off the light and closed the door. My helmet receded and I pressed my back to the door. Peter came jogging up as he saw me.
"Are you okay? What was in there?"
"Nothing. Just tools and such. I'm fine."
"What was in there?"
"Do you trust me?"
He stared for awhile, then nodded once. "Yes."
"Then drop it. Let it go."
He was hesitant, but he nodded. "Okay."
He led the way back into the house. The shutters were still banging and the wind began to whistle loudly outside.
I went back to searching the lower level.
As I searched an end table there was a creak from the upper level. My eyes lifted to the ceiling and Peter jumped behind me, putting a hand on my shoulder.
I stood all the way up to my full height and began to walk towards the stairs, keeping my eyes on the ceiling.
I slowly walked up the stairs, ready to shoot. Peter climbed the wall next to me, instead of using the stairs.
There were two doors at the top. One was a bathroom. The door was wide open, we could visibly see that it was empty. The other door was closed and there was a strip of light at the bottom. I walked up to it and slowly began to turn the knob, I opened it with a creak. The first thing I saw was writing on the wall.
"You went too far..." it said in red dripping blood.
"What the fu-" I started, but abruptly stopped as something tackled me to the ground.
It seemed human, but it's skin was white as snow and it wore no clothes. It's bones pushed at the skin as if it had too many. It walked on all fours and it's eyes were black as night. It's teeth were as yellow as the sun, and they looked like fangs. It lunged at me like an animal. I raised my forearm to protect myself and it bit onto my arm. I blasted it with the other hand and it flew across the room.
I looked at my arm. It's teeth sunk right through my arm and punctured my skin slightly.
I waved it in the air, wincing.
"You okay?" Peter said jumping down from the roof and coming up to me.
"I'm fine," I said seething, as I walked around the side of the bed. The animal creature was laying on the ground in the fetal position. It whimpered like a kicked dog. The skin where I shot was black and charred.
I raised my hand to shoot it again.
"Wait! We'll need it alive if we wanna study it!" Peter put his hand on my bicep. I looked to him, my helmet making a mechanical whir as I turned.
Blue light spread throughout the room as I blasted the creature.
"Study it dead." I said, turning to leave.
I noticed something on the end stand. An old flip phone. A burn phone most likely.
I picked it up and pocketed it, then left the house and sat on the curb.
Peter came out a minute later, the thing on his shoulders.
"Let's go," I said.
He didn't meet my eyes and nodded. I grabbed his waist and blasted into the sky, flying off into the night.
