I stepped into the small coffee shop, pulling my winter cap tighter around my head and pushing my sunglasses up on my face.
I pulled my peacoat tighter around my shoulders and walked up to the counter and ordered a coffee.
I brought out my phone as I waited for my coffee to be ready. Mj was texting me.
Mj: It's been weeks y/n
Mj: you need to get out there again
Y/N: it's not that easy mj we were together for months
Mj: and he seems to be okay with you breaking up with him
Mj: he took liz to homecoming
Mj: he didn't listen to your dad
Mj: he hasn't tried to talk to you
Mj: he hasn't talked to me about you
Mj: he seems to be doing just fine
Mj: besides there has to be someone you have your eyes on
Y/N: even if there was
Y/N: which there isn't
Y/N: i'm still not ready
Mj: whatever
I shook my head and pocketed my phone.
I took my coffee from the barista and made my way onto the streets and I walked towards the new S-Corp building.
The main doors automatically slid open for me.
"Good morning, sir." IRIS said.
"Good morning, IRIS. What's the status?"
"Everything seems to be in working order. You had a few phone calls while your were gone."
"From who?"
"Your father at 9:23 am. He left a message. Johnson from engineering, at 9:31 am, who also left a message. And someone named Wendy, at 10:01 am, they did not leave a message."
I smiled, "Thank you, IRIS. I'll head up there now."
"Yes, sir."
The elevator opened as I approached.
Then it began to lift up the tube to the top of the tower.
When the doors slid open, Maggie was typing away at her desk while holding a phone between her shoulder and cheek.
She smiled and nodded at me, her silent way of saying hello.
I walked into the circular office and down to my desk. I picked up the modern bluetooth landline and pressed the play button on the messages.
"Hey, kid, it's dad, listen, I've got some bad news. I'll be out of country all this week. I won't be there for Thanksgiving, neither will Pepper. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, especially after everything with 'he who shall not be named' but we don't have a choice, kid. I'm sorry. Eat lots of food for me."
I sighed and pressed on the next button.
"Hi, Mr. Stark, it's Johnson. I just got a suspicious notification from a sub server of IRIS, I told her not to tell you, I wanted you to come see it for yourself."
My brow furrowed.
I clicked onto missed calls and called the anonymous number back.
It rung for what seemed like forever.
"Y/N?"
"That's me."
"It's Wanda."
"I know." I said, smiling.
"Hey, look, I know you probably have your own thing going on, but if you don't, Steve, Bucky, Nat, Sam, Vis, and I were all gonna have our own little Thanksgiving dinner at Clint's house."
"And you want to invite me?"
"Well, the whole team wouldn't be there unless you were."
"I'll be there."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Okay, great, four o'clock. Don't be late."
"Never." I said with exaggeration.
"See you then."
"Wait!" I said before she hung up.
"What?"
"Can Charlie come?"
"Of course."
"Okay, see you then."
I hung up then called my dad.
It rung for awhile before saying the call couldn't be made.
"Huh..."
I walked out of the office and towards the elevator.
"IRIS, tell Johnson that I'm on my way down."
"Yes, sir."
I placed my hand on the wall and data appeared. I began to sort through it, examining several things going on throughout the tower.
When the elevator dinged, the doors slid open, and Johnson was already waiting there.
"Hey, sir. You're gonna wanna see this. I haven't told anyone else and I've been very cautious about where people go, but I figured you should be the first one to see this."
He led me down the hall to an office and showed me his computer, locking the door behind him.
There was a ton of code on his screen.
"Usually I have someone to code for me and I just deal with the construction but someone left this open and I saw something that looked suspicious."
I began to sift through it until I saw the lines he was talking about.
"C4? Bomb? Grand Finale? None of these variables should be here...and it's all triggered by...the next time someone leaves the building..."
I shot out of my seat.
"IRIS?"
"No one has left yet, sir."
"Put the building on lockdown."
"Yes, sir."
I felt a slight rumble as security shutters came down and all the ways out of the building were locked.
"Begin search for anyone suspicious. Release guard drones."
"Right away, sir."
I looked back down to the code.
"This is all linked to...the elevator tube?"
I tried to eliminate the code.
"Dammit."
"What?"
"Whoever wrote this, they knew how to avoid getting it erased. They used my own firewalls and security code against me. They're next to impenetrable, and they didn't use the code that I installed a backdoor in."
"So what do we do?"
"We don't do anything, you make sure no one leaves or enters this level, but me."
"Yes, sir."
I walked out of the office and to the stairs taking them two at a time up to the main lobby.
I threw open the door and walked over to the main desk. I pressed a button, then leaned down to the microphone.
"Attention, everyone. This is Y/N Stark. I understand you're all confused and troubled right now, but trust me, everything is going to be fine, we just have a problem that I need to get to the bottom of. Until then, everyone is to remain inside. I'll have people around with accommodations."
I walked towards the elevator and pried the doors open, stepping inside and jumping up to push the access hatch open, then slipping on top of the elevator cart. I looked around and saw C4's lined all the way around the joints between the glass tubes. I looked up to see they were lined on every single joint. Tiny, red lights flashed all the way up the tunnel.
"Sir, that's enough explosive power to level this building."
"I know."
"I detect a close-range remote detonator attachment, sir."
"How close?"
"The walls of the tower."
"The person who laid and will set off these bombs is in the tower?"
"Yes."
"...Call my dad."
