YOUR POV

Your girlfriend had been distant the past few weeks and it was starting to bother you. At first you just thought that she was out on missions a lot and Steve couldn't send anyone else. In the beginning you could just drown yourself in your school work as you waited for Nat to tiredly walk through the door and softly demand cuddles. Now, though, she'd sleep on the couch if she came home and that was a big if. It hurt you to think that Natasha was pushing you away and of course you couldn't help but think she didn't want you around anymore.

I guess you could always go back to living with your parents till school was finished. I'm sure they wouldn't mind. The idea seemed tempting but then you'd be no better than Natasha. If you spoke it was only a few words and even in those few words you seemed to be doing the bulk of the talking. The entire situation was starting to frustrate you down to the very last atom. I mean, if Nat didn't want to the least she could do was woman up and tell you so.

There was no point in waisting your time with someone who clearly wasn't going to appreciate you. Although you had to stop yourself before you packed up all your belongings and left the apartment. You'd do that after talking to her and only if the outcome was you being kicked to the curb. Maybe she felt bad for you? Or maybe she found someone better and didn't know how to tell you that without hurting your feelings.

Wiping your eyes with the back of you hand before the tears fell, you decided to finish up some school work at the kitchen table and wait for Nat to come home.

[...]

Your eyes shot open when you heard the keys jiggle in the lock to the front door before it swung open. The small kitchen light was enough to make out Natasha's tired figured as she came sluggishly walking in the house. You knew she didn't see you yet because when you spoke it startled her.

"We need to talk."

"About?" Nat asked coming into the kitchen.

"Do you even want me around?" You couldn't help but sniffle, "Am I not good enough for you, Natasha?"

"What?" Her green eyes bugged out of her head, "Y/n I- where is this coming from?"

"Oh I don't know, how about the fact that we've barely had a conversation in the last few weeks. You're always away and you sleep on the couch like I'm some, some disease." You spat.

"I'm sorry I've been distant." Her lips tugged down into a frown.

"I just want to know why." You choked out.

"Because..." Nat sighed deeply, teeth sinking into her bottom lip, "It's not that I don't want you, it's just you could do so much better then me, y/n."

"Nat-"

"No, let me finish please. I know you're worried about me when I go on missions if I'll ever make it back. I've made enemies over the years and if one of them used you to get to me and you got hurt, I'd never forgive myself. I'm insecure because I love you and I see the way other people look at you and I can't help but think how they could give you a normal life." Natasha rambled.

"I love you too." You replies softly, lips curling back into a small smile as you cupped her cheeks. "I don't need a normal life because I like this one where I have you. I wish you would have told me how you felt sooner."

"I thought maybe if I pushed you away you would be fed up and leave me. I never meant to hurt you, that was what I was trying to avoid doing."

"It's okay, baby. I'm not going anywhere. You told me your fears and I'm not saying goodbye now."

"I love you." Nat smiled before capturing your lips in a soft kiss.

You knew Nat loved you so much. She was never one to openly tell people she did, but with you, you knew it was true.
