A New Beginning Part 2

I stood beside Maggie as Rick opened the door to the building.

A walker stumbled out and Michonne immediately killed it.

"We're good for now," she whispered. She gestured for all of us to head in.

We entered a hallway and started heading down slowly.

Suddenly, I heard growling as a walker started to pull itself up from behind a desk.

I took out my knife and headed towards it.

"Bree, don't," Rick whispered urgently. "You need to take it easy."

Ignoring him completely, I drove the knife through its skull before yanking it out.

I turned and gave Rick a defiant look before continuing on.

We soon entered a big circular room. The walls were decorated with tons of paintings. Looking around, I saw a few tents that had been torn to shreds.

"Alright," Rick spoke up. "You all have your lists. Circle back here when you're done. Be safe."

As everyone started to disperse, I touched Rick's arm.

"Hey," I said quietly. "I never got a list."

"Yeah," he confirmed. "You're staying here to keep watch."

I stood in stunned silence for a moment. "You're kidding me."

"Bree, you gotta watch over that baby," he whispered. "We'll be fine."

I struggled to keep my breathing under control as he walked off.

I turned as Siddiq came over to me.

"I'll stay with you," he offered.

I sighed and nodded. "Thanks."

The two of us stood in silence for a moment before Siddiq took a deep breath.

"Hey...can I ask you something?" he asked nervously.

I crossed my arms. "Sure."

"Do you think I could do a check up on your baby at some point?"

I turned to him with wide eyes. How did he know??

"Who-" I began before coming to a realization. "Maggie."

"She only told me," he quickly assured. "And only because she wants to make sure the baby is doing well. I'm guessing you want that, too."

I eyed him warily for a second before giving in. I averted my eyes to the floor.

"I'm really scared," I admitted softly.

"I know," he sympathized. He put a hand on my shoulder. "But we all want to help you. All you have to do is let us."

I sniffled and nodded. "Okay."

I wiped a tear from my cheek and looked towards the door.

We spent the rest of the time in silence.
