Chapter 92

The Past: The Lee Brothers Story

May 2000.

The skies were gloomy, grey, and dark. By this time of the day, the birds should be singing, the sun should be out, and shining, but they were all hiding on this grey summer day.

The rain bore down mercilessly. The heavy rain hit the porch, it sounded like loud knocks. The rain hit the rooftops of the grand mansion. The usual green lawn turned wet and muddy.

Someone rang on the bell of the gate to the grand mansion. Who would walk out on such a gloomy day and horrible weather?

The maiden that was dressed in black and white looked through the camera monitor to see who had rung the bell. She narrowed her eyes. She hadn't seen this old woman before, who came with a child, all alone.

"Who's this?" The maid asked through the speaker.

She saw how the old woman flinched, looking surprised by the sudden sound that came through the security machine.

A moment passed by. The old woman with dark curls, dressed in a black coat that was dripping of water gazed into the camera, timidly.

"I'm here to meet Mr. Lee." She said in a trembling voice and eyes full of horror.

The maid's body became stiff. She furrowed her brows and became quiet for a short moment. "You need an appointment before coming. I have never seen you before. I can't let a stranger in." The maid replied in a firm tone.

The old woman panicked as she looked into the camera. "He is not a stranger!" She shouted, making the maid freeze inside the warm and safe big house.

"Who is not a stranger?" The maid asked.

"The kid I brought. He is the son of Mr. Lee. I need to meet Mr. Lee now." She stated firmly.

"Are you a scammer?" The maid raised her tone.

"No, I'm not! His mother passed away. He needs his father to care for him." The old woman said in a broken tone. She sounded angry as well, angry at the ones with power.

Processing the information, which the maid received from the stranger, she stiffened like a board. It was so shocking and blatantly absurd to her.

How some people would lie for a sum of money, she couldn't understand. She shook her head. The Lee's often received weird mails, calls and all sorts of messages from different people.

Some made up things to get money out of the family, whom she worked for. She shrugged, when another one of that kind showed up.

"I know you want money. You won't get anything. Just leave old lady." The maid said.

She didn't know whether to believe this old woman and her words. The Lee family only has one son.

"I am not lying. Let us in." The old woman continued.

There was a break.

"Let me speak to Mr. Lee." The woman said.

"Hold on." The maid said.

The old woman gazed down at the little boy by her side. His eyes were on the wet ground, and his head was lowered. He wore a blue raincoat that was dripping down with water. He was quiet.

"I'll make sure you'll get a family." The old woman said.

Then the black metal gates opened, opening the way to the grand yard and mansion. The old woman looked out at the lawn, to the long alley that led to the entrance of the mansion.
