not a day goes by where nikki walsh doesn't think about who she used to be before the world crash and burned. she thought about her $300 mattress she had, the ability to have time to herself and run errands, she would find peace grocery shopping by herself, it calmed her.

most of all, she missed complaining, about the neighbors, about how cranky tax season made her. nikki dreamed about it all the time, holding onto all the memories she had left from them.

she hope and prayed she'd never forget.

the chatter was low and down to a minimal with the group, nikki declared it a beautiful morning when she witnessed the sunrise. the sky, she was grateful for it, and it's beautiful masterpieces it painted dusk and dawn.

the woman could sense something was off with today, that's where the downside was. just felt like a dark looming cloud hovered heavily over her and the group, it felt uneasy. yet there was the fresh aroma of the breakfast nikki, carol, and her sister karleen helped prep for the group. eggs, beans, and sausage, it seemed like that's all they could cook nowadays, there was no more variety with the foods they ate anymore.

supplies will go scarce eventually, nikki didn't know when, but it'll be soon, likely when winter rolls around. she dreaded it.

carol was bent down in front of the fire pit, shoveling the eggs around the pan, making more as everyone was gathered around in a certain perimeter within each other, enjoying the delicious breakfast. andrea was sat on a nearby rock, her full attention on sharpening her knife.

nikki felt for the woman, loosing a sister so tragically, the woman saw it firsthand, and it haunted her nightmares for months. she knew what a sister's love and bond was like, and it was ripped away from andrea. and ever since then, she's grown, become someone else, wanting to be stronger.

nikki rooted for her, she knew what it was like.

the mother was sitting next to her daughter lola, with her older sister, karleen, next to her. when it all first happened, nikki was home with them, and was able to leave the city safely with her husband, lori, and carl. it was extremely hard those first few days, and she's glad those days are in the past.

it was a struggle for her, to be ripped from the society she knew so deeply. it was incredibly flawed, yes, but she'd do anything for a working laundry machine.

shane was eating his sausages with a metal fork, occasionally looking at them all to make sure everything was in check. nikki recognized early into the new world that her husband was serious on surviving, willing and able to keep them safe. nikki knew it was how they live, survive, and that's how she and him met for the first time, saving her life.
