i'm here to once again announce i'm in the process of re editing this book! i wrote this a long time ago, it will eventually be finished. thank you :)
there were some days on the farm that nikki disliked, mainly due to the Georgia heat. she's gotten used to it of course, but that didn't make her like it. she couldn't wait for the hot days to be over, and that was any week now.
she was sitting in the groups camp area in cool shade, surrounded by all of their tents and with the fire pit placed off to the side.
carol stood near her, hanging up damp laundry on the clothesline, quiet. and nikki respected that. she wanted to comfort her, but all that's been said the past few weeks was small talk. she felt bad for the woman, loosing her daughter so tragically.
nikki didn't wanna imagine, she couldn't. she kept close tabs on her daughter, lola was with carl and karleen, they had just left a few minutes ago to go take a stroll around the farm.
she had strong faith in her older sister on protecting the two children, karleen has her knife on her at all times and certainly knows how to use it.
nikki could recall a few instances where her older sister saved her with that weapon, at the quarry, in the forest, she always saved her.
"hey carol?" nikki questioned, carol stopped and turned to look at her. she sighed, "i just wanna say i'm really sorry about your girl. i should've said this sooner, but you're gonna get through this. we're all here to help you."
she gave the younger woman a slight nod, and cracked a smile. it had been some time since nikki's seen that. "thank you nik, i appreciate it."
nikki returned her a smile, before going back to the wet clothes in the basket. she was getting ready to hang them up, but then she saw something in her peripheral.
it was rick, who was walking in the direction towards the woods, he was likely going to be alone. this was her perfect chance to seek out answers that she wanted.
nikki stood up slowly, "hey carol? i'm gonna go use the bathroom, i'll be right back."
carol gave her a small "okay" in response before she abandoned the small basket of wet clothes to go seek out the man.
