while a couple of the others checked inside the church, the rest of us stood outside the entrance. the priest in my opinion was odd, he kept side-eying me in a fearful way, as if he were intimidated or scared of me.

i mean i probably did, with my eye, my grouchy facial expression i knew i had. i just wasn't in a good mood, and neither was anyone else. we're tired, hungry, and don't feel like taking shit from anyone. my feet were burning from the amount of walking we did through the woods, my muscles hurt, today just wasn't a good day for me.

and considering that for my eye, the only treatment it's gotten so far is boiled water to help sterilize it in ways. i'm not gonna lie—we weren't doing great on anything right now.

after a couple more minutes of us waiting for the all clear on the church, rick, daryl, and the others pile out. "for months i went without stepping out the front door, if you'd have found someone in there—well, it would have been surprising." father gabriel tells rick with a cracked smile. something about him—odd.

"thanks for this." carl thanks gabriel as he held judith in his arms. i smiled, carl is so much like lori, it's adorable. "we found a short bus out back, i bet we could get it going in less than a day or two. father gabriel says he doesn't want it. looks like we found ourselves some transport." abraham points out to rick, who wasn't very attentive on the subject, he noticed that.

"you do understand what's at stake here, right?" abraham continues in a stern tone. "yes i do." rick replies, it was easy to tell rick didn't give a shit about the bus, or this mission to d.c as of now.

"now that we can take a breath-" i reasoned in a calm tone, only i was interrupted by abraham. "we take a breath, we slow down, shit inevitably goes down." the ginger claps back.

the sudden interruption sparked aggravation inside of me. i scoff, "excuse me? we need supplies before we go anywhere." i snap back at abraham, my eyebrows crunched in irritation.

"she's right." rick finally speaks up, walking up the wooden steps, "food, water, ammunition."

before following rick and the others up the steps, i send the ginger a glare, walking into the church, asshole. it was pretty nice to begin with, and we, the group since the real beginning, hadn't been in a church for awhile. and to me, i never thought i'd walk into another one again.

as the group got settled in, i took a seat on one of the pews, first row specifically. i propped my black bomber jacket on the wooden arm rest for comfort, and laid down. i slowed down my breathing and took in a deep breath of the warm air. it felt good to settle down for a little bit.

even though i miss brushing my teeth, deodorant, clean water, and a comfy bed, i wouldn't trade my group for it, i'm more than grateful we're back together again. man, feeling my oily skin was disgusting, i hadn't realized how much i missed the prison 'til now."hey nikki?"

i peek open one eye, seeing carl holding judith in his arms, a strained look on his face, "can you maybe—take judith for a little bit? my arms are getting kinda tired." i nod in response, reaching out for judith, a smile growing on my face.

when she landed on my chest softly she gurgled, and i couldn't help but chuckle. she laid her head on my collarbone, and i wrapped my arms securely around her.

i started to gently pet her soft, fuzzy hair. judith. what do i say when others ask me who she is to me? daughter? step daughter? dead husband's daughter? dead husband's whom he cheated on my best friend with daughter? lola's half sister? —guess i should discuss that with rick when we have the time, right now, i just wanted a quick nap.
