Ch23: Heart Failure

Shoto's pov

I sat in a corner of the hospital, fiddling with the edge of my shirt. How long had I been sitting there? I didn't know. I wasn't keeping track. My mind was only fixed on Tamaki. She couldn't die. Not like this. She needed to live her life. To be happy. Not dying in a forest from a fire caused by a bunch of villains.
'She must have been so scared' I thought. I could imagine it. She was probably just sitting there to calm down and then she sees the fire and she probably panicked which was how her foot got stuck and why she was spread out on the ground. I bit down on one of my nails, tapping my fingers of my other hand on the arm of my chair.
"Is there anyone here for Tamaki Aizawa?" a doctor called. I shot up out of my seat which caught the doctor's attention. I ran over.
"Is She alright?" I asked. The doctor said nothing and led me into another room. In the room, Tamaki lay on a bed, hooked up to several machinery. I ran over and took her hand which was cold to the touch.
"She's cold. Why is she cold? Tamaki, can you hear me?" I asked in panic.
"Sir. Please calm down. This is important" the doctor explained. I turned to him.
"Miss Aizawa has suffered from heart failure" the doctor said bluntly. My heart dropped.
'Heart failure. That can't be true' I thought.
"So she's d-" I was cut off.
"Miss Aizawa is alive. It was thanks to you that she lived. If you hadn't tried to restart her heart on your own then she would have surely died" the doctor explained. I looked back at Tamaki.
"What caused it?" I asked.
"We believe it was a panic attack however she's unhealthily underweight which has caused a weak heart" the doctor explained.
"W-what?" I asked.
"We've diagnosed Miss Aizawa with anxiety, a weak heart and disordered eating or anorexia. That last one depends if she's deliberately starving herself to lose weight or not" the doctor explained.
"She isn't doing it deliberately. At least I don't think she is. She said that she's ashamed by how she looks now. Surely that's something" I explained.
"I'm afraid we can't properly diagnose it until we can confirm with Miss Aizawa herself" the doctor explained. I sighed and turned back to Tamaki, rubbing my finger up and down her hand.

Shota's pov

I walked into the hospital to see Tamaki. The receptionist gave me her room number and I headed there. I walked into the room where Tamaki was sitting up in the bed with Todoroki next to her and holding her hand. I walked over, alerting them both as they turned to face me.
"Dad?" Tamaki asked with a weak voice.
"How are you feeling Tamaki?" I asked, brushing some of her hair out of her face.
"Sore" she replied. I smiled at her. She needed to see a smile over me being worried. It was best for her. I brought a seat up on the her other side and sat down.
"Dad?" Tamaki asked.
"Yes" I replied.
"How did you and mum meet?" she asked. I laughed.
"Guess it's about time I told you" I smiled.
"It was back when I was in U.A, I was pretty down at the time since a close friend of mine and Hizashi's had died not to long before. Your mother took notice of this and approached me. She talked with the two of us about how she knew what it was like to loose someone since her parents had died not long before. We started to hang out a lot and I met her you get brother. He hated me instantly and I never understood why. We finished at U.A but not long after, your mother became pregnant. I helped her out a lot but she went into labor very early. You were horribly sick when you were born and had to stay in the hospital for a long time but to our relief you pulled through. That was always something she loved to say to people when introducing you to them. That you were a fighter and that you'd turn out to be a strong hero. It was nice to see her enthusiasm about it. She even did this to her brother. It's one of the things I miss about her but I still have you and I see her in you" I explained.
"How?" Tamaki asked.
"You have her heart" I told her. Tamaki gave me smile as I returned it. Todoroki had sat in silence, holding her hand.
"You will not repeat this to anyone understand" I told him.
"Yes Mr Aizawa" He nodded.
