Do you ever get that feeling in your stomach when you wake up and it just feels like today is going to be a bad day? Yeah, me too.
It's a windy Friday morning and I opened my eyes to find myself on my living room couch. I rub my tired eyes and sit up to stretch. I look down and realize I'm wearing my ballet attire and Nate's baseball jacket from yesterday. My automatic phone alarm goes off, startling me a bit. I look through the blanket for my phone but it isn't there... my bag!
I rush to the coat hanger by the front door where Nate left my bag and I find it. I turn it off then head back into the living room plopping on the couch. My eye catches a folded piece of paper on the coffee table. Curious, I grab it and unfold it to read.
Honey,
You fell asleep and we didn't want to disturb you so we left you on the couch. Sorry. If you wake up before Jesse, don't let him see your injuries. If he happens to see them, avoid his questions. Dress warm, it's supposed to be very cold and we don't want you to freeze. See you at school. Love you.
-NathyI'm both confused and happy reading this. Happy cause he was worried about me dressing warm and that he signed it with my nickname for him. Confused, cause why wouldn't he want Jay jay to know what happened? I decide to trust him and plan on not letting my brother see my bruised skin.
It's currently 6:45am meaning I have about 20 minutes until Jesse wakes up to take me to school. I need to figure out something to wear that will hide mainly my neck. I go upstairs into my room and search through my closet. I end up finding both a warm, comfortable outfit and it'll hide my bruises.
I take a quick warm shower, careful with cleaning my bruised spots, and when I'm done I let my hair air dry. Once all my morning things are complete I get dressed. I check myself in the body mirror pleased that everything is covered and that I'm warm. And pink!
My face is not as swollen as it was yesterday but you can see some light bruising. I'll just leave my hair down for the day and part it in a way that it'll cover my eye. A few minutes later I hear Jesse moving around in his room. I finish up brushing my hair and fix it just in time before he opens my bedroom door.
"Oh you're awake. Did you have a nightmare?"
"A-actually, no I didn't" that's a first for me. I have one every night except for yesterday. Weird.
"Okay well let me go get dressed and we'll go. Good morning, by the way."
"Morning Jay jay!" He smiles and closes the door. I let out a sigh; he didn't notice my face. I guess the hair parting was a good idea. I put on black worn out converse and go downstairs. I left my school bag in my locker at school so I just need to take my dance bag. Nate's jacket is on the couch and I need to return it to him so I leave it next to my bag then fold the blanket I used last night.
