Maxine's POV
My eyes opened slowly as I felt the pain slowly leave my body, I looked away from the bright light above me and turned my head to the side to see Mr Perry sat beside me along with...
"Hello stranger."
"Margarey?" I smiled.
"What are you doing back in town Maxine?" She asked as she held my hand.
"It's been long enough...Riverdale was my home for so long...I thought I couldn't back after what happened but...I needed to come back. I missed you both so much..So Mr Perry." I winked earning an eye roll. "So Robert, you're still a teacher here and you're still a nurse." I looked at Margarey.
They both nodded their heads and I leaned back so I was laying down as I became dizzy. I held my head as the pain returned.
"Maxine, you need to drink."
"No." I shook my head. "I'll be okay."
"Maxine, please." Margarey begged. "It's us. You know we'll be okay."
"No." I said getting mad.
"If you don't, you will die." Robert said leaning forward. "Your body needs more than just what you're giving it."
"Maybe I want to." I replied, my voice cracking. "It's so hard. Living like this. Not being able to grow old with the person you love, having to watch them die, sure you move on and fall in love again but it's the same cycle. Watching them get old as you stay the same. Having to feed on human blood. I hate being a vampire. At first I loved it, I loved the power. I loved the thrill of chasing after my victim...Until I fell in love for the first time and I killed her. Then I killed again and again and again, the people I loved, I killed because the feeling was too strong to control, I didn't know how to stop."
Robert quickly pulled me into his arms and held me as I cried. "It's why I left. I had to. I couldn't do it again."
"I know." Robert said as he rubbed my back. "I know."
Suddenly, the smell of blood filled my nosestrills and I growled as my vampire teeth grew. Margaery held her wrist out, blood slowly poured from her bite marks.
"Drink." She ordered.
"No." I replied, unable to take my eyes off of the blood. "Don't make me." I moved closer as the hunger grew. It looked so delicious.
"You need it. It's okay."
I glanced up at her and she nodded her head.
I gripped her arm tightly as I latched my mouth on to her wrist, sucking the blood from her arm.
"That's it." She encouraged. "Good girl."
I pulled away and wiped my mouth as the hunger died down. Margarey licked the little bit of blood that remained and then reached into the drawer beside her and pulled out a bandage.
"I can't do that again. I can't take it from you, I can't take it from humans...Good humans anyway, but all I ever seem to come across is good people. That's why I've been hunting animals in the night...It's something a friend taught me a few decades ago when I was visiting Mystic Falls. It doesn't stop the hunger entirely but it's enough to survive."
"I have an idea. Marge and I, we'll supply you with our blood." Robert suggested. "We'll give you enough blood to last a week now and then we'll give you some more next week? That way, you're getting some good blood and not some cheap animal blood."
"You know what'll happen if I do that."
"Maxine, you'll be able to control it. You won't be hungry if you have our blood. Please, just at least try." Robert begged.
I sighed but nodded my head. "Okay, thank you."
Robert smiled at me and just as he was about to bite his wrist, there was a knock on the door and it slowly opened.
"Umm..Hi."
"Miss Blossom, what brings you here?" Margarey asked.
My ear perked up at the name Blossom...It couldn't be...Could it?
"I just wanted to check on Maxine, see how she's doing."
"She's a little dehydrated and she doesn't appear to be getting the nutrients she needs."
"I can speak for myself." I said annoyed.
"I'm going to have to let your parents know so they can keep an eye on you." Margarey said, ignoring my attitude as she reached for the phone that was placed on the counter.
"My parents are dead." I said as I hopped off the nurses bed and pushed my way past Cheryl and walked down the hall, tears filling my eyes at the memory of my parents, not being able to save them as they were killed by vampire hunters.
"Hey, you okay?"
Betty grabbed my arm and pulled my towards her locker.
"I'll be fine." I said wiping my eyes.
"Okay...I won't pry, I don't want to ruin our blossoming friendship." She laughed. "If there is a friendship blossoming?"
"Maybe."
I wasn't really in the mood to talk, I just wanted to go home. I leaned against the lockers and Betty placed her hand on my arm.
"I'm sorry that whatever you're going through is making you feel this way. I'm sure it'll get better soon."
"Thanks."
"Sorry to break up this sad little meeting but I must speak to Maxine about an important matter. Also, here." Cheryl threw my backpack on the floor in front of my feet. "You forgot that, anyways, because you are not looking after yourself, I have told Mr Perry and Nurse Marge that I'm to take you home and look after you until you're healthy enough to be on your own."
"Wow...Good luck." Betty laughed.
"Oh hush, cousin." Cheryl rolled her eyes. "And no, you can't say no. It's not an option. I'll be waiting in my car at three fifteen pm sharp after school, don't be late or you'll be sleeping outside. Toodles." And with yet another flip of her hair, Cheryl walked away.
"That is one strange girl...First she was a bitch and now she's being nice..? Like...Super nice, nice enough to let a stranger stay with her for however long."
"Mmm. Yeah. Just be careful okay? She's probably just trying to fill the hole in her heart Toni left. She sees that you need taking care of and as much of a bitch that she is, she's good at taking care of people. She's lost a lot so now...She's able to gain something y'know? But her family is a strange bunch so just be extra, extra careful okay?"
I had a small feeling in my stomach that I knew just as much. But maybe I was wrong...I sure hope I was...
"Oh hey, if Cheryl gets on your nerves, me and the others meet at Pops Diner every day at five if you'd like to join us. First burger and milkshake is on me...Call it a welcoming gift."
I laughed and nodded my head. "Alright, thanks."
"No problem." She smiled. "Catch you later Max." She said before walking away.
Maybe it wasn't going to be so bad here after all.
