Maxine's POV
At lunch, I headed to the music room. I really wanted to see that girl again, something about her just seemed to catch my attention...That and I wanted to know her name.
I opened the door and saw her sat at a keyboard writing on a piece of paper. I quietly closed the door so I didn't disturb her and then I sat down on one of the chairs that was leaning against the wall closest to her.
I couldn't help but smile as she continued to write, not realising I was there. It was kind of cute how focused she was.
She started humming quietly to herself before she started sing. "We get lost and we get found, now we are here, we won't back down. Write this in the sky, we own the night and we fear nothing." She smiled proudly as she quickly began to write again.
"You're really good." I said while clapping.
"Oh my god." She gasped as she sat up quickly with her hand over her heart. "Maxine, you scared me."
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to interrupt."
"It's fine." She said as she changed her position on the chair so she was facing me. "I'm glad you came."
"Well, I wanted to know your name."
"Fair enough." She laughed. "I'm Josie."
"Pretty name."
"Thank you." She said looking away shyly. "Do you sing?"
"Oh hell yeah, I'm the best damn singer in the world." I sat up confidently. "If you want babies to cry and dogs to howl, then I'm the best singer in the world."
Josie laughed and rested her arm on the back of the chair. "You're not that bad surely."
"Oh I am."
"I don't believe you, sing something."
"Nope."
"Come on, you heard me sing."
"Oh is that the time?" I said as I stood up and gripped my backpack tightly. "See you later Josie."
I walked to the door but Josie stood up quickly and blocked my path.
"Ah ah, you're not leaving just yet."
"Yeah I am." I chuckled as I reached for the door handle but she placed her hand over it and leaned against the door.
"No." She whined. "I wanna hear you sing."
"Not happening." I said trying to move her hand but she held on tightly. "Josie, move please."
"Make me." She smirked.
I leaned moved closer, our face inches apart. "You don't want me to do that." I said, my voice coming out rather quiet. "You have no idea the things I would do."
"You better slow down there." She replied, her voice coming out as a whisper. "I don't do anything more than just a kiss on the first date."
"Oh? Was this our first date?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"You think you could even get a date with me? Please, you wouldn't be able to handle it."
"And why's that?"
"Let's just say....Things can get pretty wild."
I licked my bottom lip and placed my hand on the door, just above her head. "Well, considering you only kiss on the first day, I'm pretty intruiged."
"See you at Pop's at six." She winked as she pushed me back and opened the door, allowing me to leave.
I think...I'm going on a date tonight? I chuckled and shook my head as I left the room and thought about what just happened.
How the hell did I end up going on a date with her?
Suddenly a large commotion caught my attention as I walked down the hallway. I walked quicker as the shouting got louder and as I turned the corner, I saw something I didn't think I'd see again.
Southside Serpents.
They were arguing with people I had never seen before and as I pushed my way through the crowd of students not associated with the gang, I saw Jughead stood in front of the members of the gang.
I looked to my right and saw Betty with a badly beaten Archie.
"That's what you get for fucking with me." The guy shouted. "I told you to stay out of my way and what did you do? You interefered in my business. What we did to your boy, that was just a warning. Next time it'll be far worse." He smirked as he turned to walk away. "Your girlfriend is beautiful, by the way. Be a shame if someone ruined that pretty face of hers."
He took off running before Jughead did and I knew then that was a bad sign.
As the Serpents ran after the guy and Jughead, I ran close behind them and once we reached outside, I knew it was just a way to get Jughead and the others out there because they were quickly attacked by a group of people.
I decided to help the Serpents, they were there for me the last time I was here, even if the new members didn't know it, so it was the least I could do.
Someone was about to pull a knife on Jughead but I quickly removed my backpack and threw it at his head before running over and tackling him.
I tried not to get too involved just in case I lost control and exposed my secret but it felt so good beating this asshole up.
I felt myself slowly losing control and as I tried to calm myself, the guy I was punching grabbed me by the throat and pulled me close. "Hit me harder, I dare you."
I grabbed his arm and pushed it away roughly but he pushed me off him and then he straddled my waist and began choking me with one hand as he leant down to my ear.
"I know what you are."
Then he reached for my hand and the worst thing possible happened. He removed my ring and threw it somewhere.
My entire body began to burn and I screamed in agony as tears poured uncontrollably from my eyes.
He was quickly pushed off me and Jughead was kneeling beside me. He took my hand and placed the ring back on my finger, confusion written on his face as he did so.
As the burning stopped, so did my screaming but I knew the pain was far from over as Jughead stood up and just kept looking at me, I could tell he was getting more confused.
How was I going to explain this?
