Maxine's POV

Cheryl and I were stood at the counter waiting to be served. We were still somewhat uncertain about the movie that we wanted to see. I wanted to watch a horror movie but Cheryl wanted to watch a romance.

"I have an idea. The next movie that comes across the screen,is what we'll see."

Cheryl nodded her head and we looked up at the screen that was behind us that played trailers for the movies that were showing. I leaned against the counter and crossed my arms as we waited for the next trailer to play.

A few seconds later a new trailer began to play and a huge smile, slowly appeared on my face. That movie hadn't even crossed my mind.

"Charlie's Angels it is then." Cheryl said turning around, asking for both tickets and our snacks and drinks.

Cheryl handed me my things and then we walked in silence to the room that the movie would be playing in.

Cheryl struggled to balance her drink and the box of popcorn whilst trying to open the door so I kindly used my free hand and held it open for her. She mumbled a quick thank you before walking inside.

I followed Cheryl because she knew where we were sitting and I was surprised that they had given us seats right at the back, the movie was due to start in five minutes and it wasn't really full.

I placed my drink in the cup holder and scooted down the seat slightly so I was more comfortable. I looked up at Cheryl who was sat up straight, giving me a weird look.

"What? It's comfortable."

"You look like a child." She said taking a sip of her drink.

"You look like a child." I mimicked as I sat up.

"Oh you're an actual child. How lovely."

I laughed lightly and crossed my arms and rested my left leg across my right.

Cheryl held the box of popcorn between us and gave me a small smile, letting me know it was okay to have some. I took a handful and threw a piece in the air and caught it in my mouth.

"Seriously? In public?" She asked slightly surprised.

I shrugged my shoulders and did it again. "Nobody's watching and even they were, who cares? I'm not gonna let a bunch of strangers stop me from doing something fun. I don't care who is watching or who isn't, that's no way to live, letting what you think others think of you control your life." I moved closer and spoke quietly so only she could hear me. "Actually, I think it's because I've lived over three hundred years. I've just learned not to give a fuck. Most people will be dead while I'm still alive and thriving. So eh, fuck it."

I frowned when I saw that Cheryl looked sad. I moved the popcorn box so it was resting on the chair next to me and I put my arm around Cheryl, comforting her.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly in her ear. "I didn't mean to upset you, I was just trying to be funny."

"It's okay...It's just..." She sighed and moved back slightly so she could look at me. "You don't age...Yet I'm gonna grow old and die. My Mother is gonna die...You love her...How do you live like this? Loving people only to lose them?"

"It's hard and it's gonna be really hard when your Mom dies. It's gonna be hard when you die too. I love you both, you're like my family."

"You love me?" Cheryl asked, her eyes wide.

Shit. I coughed and removed my arms as I began to panic. I didn't want to ruin our friendship. I didn't wanna lose her.

"Yeah, you're like my new best friend. Of course I love you."
