Betty's POV
We all agreed it was best not to tell Cheryl about Toni, not yet. We needed her to focus on Maxine. Maxine was our priority.
I turned around when I saw footsteps running towards us.
Cheryl was dressed in a black jumpsuit, her bow in her hand.
Of course it was. Always prepared.
I raised my eyebrows when I saw Penelope wearing jeans and a hoodie. That was the strangest thing I've seen...And I've seen Maxine use her vampire skills.
"What's the plan?" Cheryl asked once she reached us, trying to catch her breath.
"I just wanna get in there and get my hands on the bastard." FP said as he pulled a switchblade out of his pocket.
"So let's do it." Penelope said as she walked in front of us, leading us towards Thornhill.
Cheryl's POV
We carefully walked into my old, burned down home, being careful not to damage the house more and cause it to fall on us and also being careful to not alert my Father, if he was here.
Jughead had taken over the lead, he had a torch and he knew where abouts Maxine was. We heard loud laughing from below us and I knew instantly they were down in the basement.
I pushed my way to the front, not being able to handle hearing the laughing as they continued to beat Maxine. Jughead whispered for me to go back to them but I ignored him.
I was getting Maxine and I was getting her now.
I walked down the stairs of the basement, surprised they were still in an okay condition. I raised my bow, ready to shoot my arrow at whoever was beating Maxine.
"Wakey, wakey vampire." They taunted.
As I turned the corner, my heart shattered at the sight in front of me. Maxine was chained up, she was covered in blood and she wasn't moving, even as the two thugs continued to beat her.
Anger rushed through my veins as I let my arrow fly. Hitting the guy who had a knife in his hands, in the leg. He fell to the ground, yelling in pain as his friend turned around in shock.
"You again?"
I quickly reached for another arrow but I was pushed to the side as Jughead and FP came running down the stairs. Both of them grabbing the guy who I hadn't shot with an arrow.
As they dealt with him, I dropped my bow on the ground and removed the quiver from my back as I ran towards Maxine.
I gently lifted her head up, looking for any signs of life. Her face was bloody and covered in bruises. I heard a few gasps as I used a bobby pin to unlock the chains from Maxine's wrists. A little trick I learned from Betty.
Maxine fell forward but I was quick to catch her. I slowly sank to the floor, holding Maxine in my arms. Tears pouring down my face as she still hadn't moved.
I pushed some hair out of her face and wiped some of the blood away.
"Shit."
Archie picked up the knife and my heart broke even more. They had stabbed her over and over with wood...She...She's dead...Isn't she? She's dead.
"No...No..." I cried harder as I pulled Maxine closer to my chest. I held her tightly. "Please..No..Not like this. Not now. Please. Wake up, don't leave me." I begged over and over.
Mother knelt beside me, gently wrapping an arm around me. I heard her sniffle, letting me know that she was also crying.
"Oh Max..." Betty said, her voice breaking.
"I love you, Maxine." I repeated over and over, hoping it would somehow cause her to wake up. "I should've told you sooner. I should've told you before you left. This is all my fault. It's all my fault. If I hadn't told you to leave, none of this would'vd happened."
"It's not your fault, Cheryl. Don't blame yourself." Mother said as she placed a kiss on the top of my head.
"Blood. She needs blood." Jughead said quickly. "She needs to feed on one of us."
"No." FP said quickly. "She'd hate that. She never wanted to feed on a human again."
"What other choice do we have?" Alice said. "It's the only way."
Without thinking, I reached for the wooden knife that was in Archie's hands, snatching it from him. I slit my wrist, wincing as I did so, before holding my wrist to Maxine's lips.
"Come on. Drink it you son of a bitch."
She didn't react at first but soon, she let out a quiet growl as she began to feed more. Her eyes remained closed as she grabbed my wrist, desperately drinking my blood.
"That's it." I smiled. "That's it."
As she heard my voice, her eyes opened quickly. She weakly pushed my arm away and Mother removed her hoodie, putting it over my wrist to stop the bleeding.
"Wh...Why?" Maxine asked weakly as she tried to sit up, she was still somewhat weak so I helped her. I still kept my arms around, not wanting to let her go, not now. Not ever. Not again. "Why?! I told you...I fucking told you...Why did you force me to feed...Why?!" She asked weakly but angrily.
I cupped her face, using my thumb to wipe the blood from her lips as I stared deep into her baby blue eyes. "Because quite frankly, Maxine...I..I l-"
"Wait. Wait." She cut me off.
I was confused but I soon understood her urgency as the house began to make weird noises, dust began to fall around us. Pieces of wood began to fall around us.
"We need to get out. C'mon." FP said quickly as he helped me with Maxine.
"What about us?!" One of the thugs shouted before spitting blood out of his mouth.
"Go to hell." Mother spat at them before walking in front of FP and I.
The house was slowly falling apart even more as we tried to get out of the house quickly.
I kept a tight grip on Maxine as she tried to walk as fast as she could.
We were nearly out, just a few more steps.
Jughead was out.
Betty was out.
Archie...
Alice...
Mother...
FP...
"Cheryl!!!" Mother shouted.
I looked up to see the roof was about to cave in and before I could react, I was roughly pushed forward.
I turned around to see Maxine about to fall to the ground, unable to stand on her own. My eyes widened as the roof collapsed...
"Maxine!" I shouted in despair.
However...I was confused when someone ran and pulled Maxine out of the way.
Maxine layed on the ground and whoever helped, was stood beside her, it was clearly a girl that had saved her, her long brown, curly hair gave it away, as well as her body. Her back was facing towards us but then...She turned around.
I swear my heart stopped beating for a split second.
I walked towards her, she walked towards me. I stared at her in shock and she just smiled.
"Toni.."
"Cheryl."
I wrapped my arms around her neck and her arms went around my waist. I buried my face into her neck, taking in her warmth.
"I'm sorry." She apolpgised. "I'm so sorry."
I pulled away and shook my head before cupping her face and leaning in, kissing her...But this time it felt different.
I broke the kiss and looked behind her, Maxine was being helped up by Alice and Mother.
I swallowed hard as I looked between Maxine and Toni...It was clear that I had to make a choice...
But who do I choose?
