Two Weeks Later
Maxine's POV
Two weeks have passed and I'm feeling better than ever. Stronger than ever. Happier than ever.
I'm still living with Cheryl, she didn't allow me to leave once she saw I was living in a little run down apartment that hardly had anything. She even told Penelope and she agreed with Cheryl.
They were ever so slowly repairing the broken and abusive relationship they had and I was happy for them. Sure, it'd take a long time for seventeen years worth of abuse and hurt to heal but it was a start.
As for the incident with Josie, she stayed out of my way but on the odd occasion we did see eachother was mainly in English, she would always apologise. She said she was gonna keep apologising until I forgave her.
I knew I could forgive her at some point, but not anytime soon. What she did was an awful thing. If she had told me from the start that all she wanted was sex I would've been okay with it. It would've been nice to fuck without the emotional attatchment and all that stuff because I didn't have the energy for a full blown relationship right now.
Cheryl and I had gotten closer, we spend a lot of time together, however it's not by choice. We have to work on making Romeo and Juliet modern and we have to act it out. Which of course, she loves the idea of.
We were currently in her bedroom, trying to come up with ideas on how to change certain things.
"You would think this would be easy." I huffed as I layed on her bed.
"Wait, wasn't there a ball?"
"Yes." I said sitting up quickly and looking down at Cheryl who was sat on the floor with her legs crossed. A smile appeared on both of our faces as the same idea came out at the same time. "House party."
Cheryl quickly wrote the idea down and I stood up as did Cheryl once she was finished writing.
"Pretty sure it was also the first place they met and it was love at first sigh for Romeo."
"Right." Cheryl nodded as she gently pushed the pieces of paper and pens to the wall with her foot before she grabbed her phone. "We can do some dancing for our first scene. Remember we have to do three different scenes."
I nodded my head as I waited for Cheryl to choose some music for us to practice dancing to.
She began to play This Love by Camila Cabello and I shook my head at her and took the phone from her.
"We're not slow dancing. That's cheesy, not modern."
"Cheesy IS modern. Plus it's romantic. Romeo and Juliet was a love story."
"Stupid love story." I mumbled as I scrolled through songs on Spotify.
"Just humor me." She said taking the phone back. "If you don't like it, we can choose a different song."
"Fine, whatever...But just so you know, I'm not a dancer."
"Shush."
She put the song to the start and wrapped her arms around my neck. "Max, put your hands somewhere."
I threw my arms in the air and began to slowly move from side to side trying not to laugh as Cheryl looked unimpressed. She raised her eyebrow at me and I sighed, putting my arms down and moving my hands so they were on her hips.
"This is so stupid." I mumbled as Cheryl restarted the song again.
She took a step closer, our bodies practically pushed against eachother.
As the song played I grew annoyed. "There's no fucking actual rhythm for us to dance to."
"Wait."
Then the drums came and finally there was a beat and we found ourselves getting lost in the music and just dancing to the beat.
"There you go." Cheryl praised as I got more into the movement.
I moved backwards and accidently kicked my ankle against the edge of her bed.
"Ow. Fuck."
I fell backwards, pulling Cheryl with me. Thankfully we both landed on her bed, except Cheryl was on top of me.
"Are you okay?" Cheryl asked while laughing.
"No, my ankle hurts." I whined.
"You're a tough girl, you'll be fine."
She hadn't moved off of me yet, my arms were still around her. She sat up and used her hand to move her hair to one side.
The way she was looking down at me was sending me slightly crazy on the inside. She leaned forward and pecked my cheek before standing up.
"Why did you do that?"
"Well I wasn't going to kiss your ankle." She said slightly disgusted. "I don't kiss below the thigh." She winked.
Wait. Winked? She winked at me when saying something clearly in a sexual manner? What hell was this? I'm so confused. It doesn't help that once again my heart is going crazy.
"Are you okay?" Cheryl asked again, this time more concerned as she leaned in close.
No. Not helping my heart here, Cheryl.
"Yeah, why?"
"You like, completely zoned out."
"Oh, it's just what you said. It caught me by surprise."
"It was a joke you hobo." She said rolling her eyes. "However, I am sorry if it made you feel uncomfortable."
"It didn't. Just surprised me that's all." I said as I pushed some hair behind her ear that had fallen out of place.
I got lost in her eyes again, the way she made me feel..It was a feeling I hadn't felt in a long time...Fuck, why did it have to be her?
Suddenly, the door burst open. Cheryl remained on top of me as I sat up and we both looked at the door to see Jughead and Fangs stood there.
"We have a problem."
"What?"
"The problem is you and your friend, Captain Skinny Dick here have no manners. Do thy not know how to knock?" Cheryl said crossing her arms, still on top of me.
Jughead looked pissed and I noticed a knife in his hands. "Dodger took Betty and his boys beat up Archie again."
"Shit." I said gently pushing Cheryl off of me.
I grabbed my serpent jacket that I had placed on the bed and put it on as I was about to follow Jughead and Fangs.
"Excuse me chums, wait one moment." Cheryl said as she walked to her closet.
"Why? We don't have time to help you pick out an outfit Cheryl." Jughead said getting more pissed.
"Don't be a pillock now Jughead. Betty is my cousin and I'm coming to help."
"You? Help?" I asked confused. "How could you possibly help?" I was starting to get annoyed myself. My friend was in danger and we needed to help her. "Sitting there and looking pretty doesn't help."
"Thank you for the compliement dear Maxine. However, I had other plans in mind." She pulled out a red serpent jacket and I raised my eyebrows. I turned to Jughead who shrugged his shoulders.
"We kicked her and Toni out. They came back but Cheryl left the gang again when Toni left town...But unless you get kicked out then...You're always a Serpent. Weather you want to be or not. You can choose to distance yourself from the gang but you'll still be a member."
I turned to look at Cheryl and I almost fell on my ass when I saw her pointing an arrow at me.
"Now, shall we go and save my cousin?"
