Maxine's POV

Cheryl and I were kissing outside of Thistle House. I pulled away only for a moment but she pulled me back and we began to kiss again.

It was crazy how much I loved this girl.

She broke the kiss this time, shivering as she did so.

"Come on, let's head inside." She said opening the door. I followed behind and closed the door.

I turned around and was confused when I saw the entire hallway a mess. Something wasn't right.

I gently moved Cheryl out of the way and made my way into the living room, Penelope was sat on the sofa, tending to Toni who appeared to be hurt, the living room was also a complete wreck. Rose was sat in the corner, visably shaken.

"What happened?" I asked as I held my hand out towards Cheryl, letting her know it was safe.

"It appears Clifford and that Nicolas boy have hired Dodger and his men to do some of their work." Penelope said as she finished wrapping a bandage around Toni.

"I came to give you some things you left back at my trailer." Toni said as she pulled her shirt down. "Your Mom was lucky I was here when they decided to trash the place."

I walked over to Toni and knelt down. "You get stabbed with wood?" She nodded her head. "Have you had any blood?" She shook her head. I bit my wrist and held it in front of her.

She happily grabbed my arm, almost pulling me off balance as she latched her mouth around the blood that was oozing out of my wrist.

"I'm not sure how I feel about this. My girlfriend and my ex getting along great. Feeding eachother. Both vampires. Should I be worried?" Cheryl laughed but I could tell she was only half joking.

"Toni saved me. She took care of me when I was all chained up. Even if you guys were still together...I.." I stopped myself, realising that I was going to leave...Not stay. "I would never hate her. I'm thankful for her."

Toni stopped feeding on me and pushed my arm away. I stood up and walked towards Cheryl. I took her hands in mine and kissed her forhead.

"You never have to be worried. I'm yours for as long as it's possible."

"What do you mean by that?"

"At some point...We're gonna have to break up..."

"The fuck? Why?!"

"Because. You're going to age and get old, I'm gonna stay the same."

"So?"

"I don't want people to judge you when you're like forty and it looks like you're dating an underage teen."

Cheryl let out a deep breath, the next thing she said, stunned me.

"So...Turn me?"

I just stared at her. Unable to say anything. I heard Penelope and Toni telling her why it was a bad idea but I couldn't seem to form words. I couldn't believe she suggested that.

Not even Penelope suggested that.

I was about to speak but my ears pricked up as I heard a suspcious sound. I used my vampire hearing to listen more clearly...But it was too late.

Windows were smashed.

Everything went dark.

Toni cried out in pain and before I could react, so did I. I fell to the ground, clutching my stomach. I tried to stand but it was impossible.

Cheryl and Penelope both cried out for me. I looked up and just managed to see shadowy figures moving across the room as Cheryl and Penelope's voices became muffled.

I managed to stand as anger ran through my veins but I was soon kicked back down.

"Nick was right by the way."

Clifford. I tried to stand once more but he kicked me down again and grabbed me by the hair roughly.

"You've killed them."

I screamed as a burning sensation hit me in the shoulder. I knew he had stabbed me with wood.

But then I heard him cry out in pain. "You bitch." I heard him snarl before a loud thud landed beside me. "You'll pay for that. Just you wait."

I turned my head to see Toni laying beside me. Not moving. I weakly reached out for her, feeling a lump in my throat develop as I felt a sticky liquid on my fingers.

I sniffed it and realised it was blood.

She was dead. Not dead, dead but he had still temporarily killed her. I shakily grabbed my phone in my pocket and called the first person in my contacts list.

"Hello?"

"Al-Alice. Help."

"Max, what's wrong? What's happened?"

"Clifford. Thistle House. Come quick." I said as I felt myself become weaker.

I hung up the phone, feeling myself become too tired and too weak to even hold it to my ear. I tried to stay awake but my body was shutting down, I fucking hated that wood was one of our weaknesses.

I slowly shuffled closer to Toni and placed my arm over her. Letting her know that someone was there, part of me was keeping her warm and protecting her...

She protected me so I would do the same for her, she saved me and I would do the same for her. I turned her into a vampire and that means I will spend forever apologising to her.

I owe her a lot. I would give my life for her if it came down to it.

I just hoped it wouldn't...But it wouldn't be so bad...I just wanted to stop being a vampire.

But I didn't want to leave Cheryl and Penelope...

My heart was torn in what I wanted.

To live forever or finally die? What was I to do?
