Maxine's POV

Alice poured us some wine and I had downed three glasses until she said I either slow down or she's putting it away so I decided to take my time with my fourth.

"Wanna know what makes the entire situation worse, Al? I fucking love her. I love Cheryl but hold on, here it comes." I moved closer to Alice. "I still love Penelope."

"I know."

"I'm always gonna love Penelope and I know I shouldn't because of the things she's done to Cheryl and because I love Cheryl also....But I can't help it."

"I know."

"It's bullshit!"

"I know."

I put the wine glass down on the coffee table and moved closer to Alice, she put her glass down too and wrapped her arms around me in a comforting hug.

"Why do I have to be a monster? I never asked for this." I rested my head on Alice's shoulder and she rested her head on mine. "Part of me wishes I had died on that day."

"Don't ever say that. You were the glue that kept us all together. If it wasn't for you, then I wouldn't be here. Penelope wouldn't be here. Nor Fred or Hermione. You saved us on that day."

"I should've burned down with the rest of them." I mumbled reaching for the glass of wine but Alice stopped me.

"No." She said sternly. "Think about how Penelope would've felt. I believe if you had died, she would've been far worse than what she is now."

"But she would've known I was gone for good and that I didn't just leave her."

"Max, stop it."

I began to cry again and Alice was quick to comfort me. I just felt so much pain. I just wanted it to stop.

"You know, I love you Max. You were my best friend then and you're my best friend now."

I pulled away from Alice's hug and smiled at her. "Thanks Al. I love you too." I leaned in for another hug and when I pulled away, I made the mistake of trying to kiss her.

"Max."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay, don't worry about it. I think you've had enough to drink." She said as she reached for my glass and poured the remaining wine into her own glass. "Maybe go and sleep it off?"

I nodded my head and stood up from the sofa, the front door opened as I was about to walk up the stairs and Betty along with Jughead entered the house.

"Max." Betty grinned as she walked towards me and wrapped her arms around me.

"Hey Max." Jughead smiled, as he hugged me once Betty pulled away.

"Maxine will be staying here for a while." Alice standing up.

"Okay...But why aren't you staying at Thistle House anymore?" Betty asked confused.

I looked down at the ground before looking up at Alice, letting her know she could tell them.

"Clifford confessed to killing Jason, he went to hit Penelope and Maxine attacked him, almost killing him."

"I don't see the problem here." Betty said crossing her arms. "That evil psychopath deserves worse than death though."

"Cheryl saw everything. She knows I'm a vampire, she thinks I'm a monster."

"Oh Max, she was probably just shocked, that's all." Betty said as she rubbed my back soothingly.

"She told me to get out and she called me a monster....She was scared of me...I...I would never hurt her Betty, never. I just couldn't take him hurting Penelope again. I loved her once, I still do but..."

I  paused, wondering if I should tell them. I bit my lip nervously as Betty continued to rub my back.

"You love Cheryl now, don't you?" Jughead asked.

I nodded my head slowly and before I knew it, I was in Jughead's arms as he was giving me a brotherly type of hug. I gripped on to the back of his jacket tightly as I began to cry harder.

"It's okay." He whispered. "It's okay."

Hugging him and being this vunerable with him, it made me think back to the time I confessed to FP that I was in love with Penelope but she was with Clifford. He had comforted me with the same brotherly hug that Jughead was giving me.

Even though I was a vampire...It felt good to be held. I felt truly safe and truly protected.

- - -

I was staying in Alice's other daughter's room. She had joined a place called The Farm so she didn't stay here anymore.

I was just sat on the edge of her bed, scrolling through pictures on my phone of Cheryl and I. Pulling weird faces, smiling...There was a few of her when she didn't know I was taking them. She was so cute when she was lost in thought. Looking at the pictures just made my heart hurt because she's scared of me and we'll probably never have that friendship again.

The sound of tapping on the window caught my attention and I saw small rocks being thrown. Walking over to the window I saw Josie at the bottom.

She noticed me and waved.

I opened the window and looked down at her confused.

"What are you doing here?" I whisper yelled.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair." She laughed.  "Can I come up?"

"I guess so."

I watched as she climbed up the black pipe that was attatched to the house and when she was close to the window I helped her through it.

"What are you doing here?" I asked as I closed the window.

"Betty texted me and said you needed cheering up." Josie replied as she kicked her shoes off and sat on the bed cross legged.

I sat on the bed in front of her and began to think if I should tell her about me being a vampire or not.

"Max?" She placed her hand on my leg.

"Can...Can I tell you something?"

"Anything." She smiled sweetly. "But can I tell you something first?"

"If you're going to apologise again, I'll bite you."

"Ooh." She smirked. "I'm sorry." She said winking.

I rolled my eyes and took her hands in mine. "I forgive you, okay? It was a shitty thing you did but honestly worse has happened..."

"It's not gonna happen again. Me doing that anyway."

I nodded my head in thanks as I thought if I was one hundred percent sure if I wanted to tell her.

"Instead of telling you, can I show you?" I asked and when Josie nodded her head, I took a deep breath and showed her my fangs. "Please don't be scared, I won't hurt you."

Josie stood up from the bed slowly. I lowered my head as I realised she was probably scared of me.

"I'm sorry." I said standing up and laughing. "It's just a dumb magic trick, that's all. I was just trying to prank you and cheer myself up." I lied quickly.

But she didn't believe me as she backed away again.

"Don't lie to me." She said calmly.

"I'm not."

"Really?"

My eyes widened as Josie opened her mouth and showed me fangs of her own.

I quickly pushed her against the wall and began to kiss her passionatly. She jumped up and wrapped her legs around my waist and I held her tightly.

I made my fangs appear and I gently nipped her neck, causing her to moan. I carried her over to the bed and gently layed her down. Her legs still around me as I kissed her once more.

Josie was a vampire too? I was shocked but also happy because this...This was a welcome distraction.
