Maxine's POV

I was sat in the library with Archie who had a free period, I refused to go back to class after that. I was too embarrassed. I didn't even feel like talking to Archie.

I was sat on one of the chairs with my knees pulled up to my chest, Archie was reading a boxing magazine. Silent tears slowly rolled down my cheeks.

I thought it hurt when I left Penelope but this...This hurt so much worse. I could still smell the blood on me, I could still feel the way it stuck to my skin.

"Maxine."

I looked up to see Josie stood in front of me, her arms crossed as she looked at me concerned.

My bottom lip wobbled and before I could cry harder, Josie had stood me up and wrapped her arms around me. I held on to her tightly as I buried my head into her shoulder.

"It's okay, I got you." She whispered gently rubbing my back.

She sat us both down on the sofa across from where Archie was sitting and I noticed he had left.

Josie wrapped her arm around my shoulders and rested my head on her shoulder.

"Betty and Veronica filled me in on what happened. I could seriously punch Cheryl."

"She's not worth it." I said as I grabbed the hand that she had placed in her lap. "And honestly...I've had worse done to me...It's just..I..I have a lot of feelings for Cheryl." I didn't want to hurt Josie by admitting that I was falling for Cheryl and I didn't want to admit that again, not after today. "And what she did hurt and along with the embarrassment...It's just a lot."

Josie nodded her in understanding. We remained cuddling eachother in silence until Josie spoke.

"Can I be honest with you?"

"I'd appreciate it if you were."

"Back at Pop's...The night we..." She sighed. "I was planning on feeding on you but...I couldn't. You're such a kind, sweet girl."

I smiled and looked up at her, she gently cupped my face and captured my lips with her own. She pulled away and rested her forhead on mine. "I have a performance tonight at La Bonne Nuit and I would really, really like it, if you were there."

"The fuck is La Bonne Nuit?"

Josie laughed and pulled my ponytail to the side. "It's Veronica's club in Pop's. I'm surprised she hasn't told you about it."

"We're not that close, so.."

"Well, I'm sure she won't mind you being there...Please come." She pouted.

"Okay." I booped her nose. "I'll be there."

"Don't ever do that again." She said seriously.

"Wasn't planning to."

Later that evening, Betty and I went to La Bonne Nuit together and I was surprised. It looked like a legit club. There was a bar and a stage. A poker table in the corner. Actual booths and tables. I didn't think Veronica would run a legit club...Then I realised her last name was Lodge and that could only mean one thing.

"My, my. I heard rumours you were back in town."

I turned around and saw a man wearing an expensive business suit with a glass of whiskey in his hand.

"It's good to see you mi amor."

"Hiram Lodge." I smiled as he leaned in for a hug. "It's good to see you, how are you?"

"I'm doing well, I kept my promise and established myself as a legitimate business man."

"That's a lie daddy. Handling drugs, ordering hits, trying to shut down my club, trying to take over the town, almost killing my boyfriend? That's not being a legitimate business man." Veronica said from behind the bar, clearly pissed that he was here.

"You're right, mija. Trying to shut down your club and trying to kill your boyfriend? That's personal." He smirked as he took a sip of whiskey. "Maxine, she makes it seem a lot worse than it really was."

"Mmm. Sure, Hiram."

"I have business to attend to but Maxine, let's have a drink sometime. Hermione would love to see you and I could have some more...Work...If you're interested."

"I'll think about it."

He raised his glass before finishing his drink and placing the empty glass on the bar. Veronica grabbed it as she glared at Hiram as he walked up the stairs.

"That man...Grr. I hate him." Veronica growled before turning to look at me, a sweet smile replacing the look of hatred. "Hope you enjoy the show."

As soon as she said that, the lights dimmed and as we turned our attention to the stage, Josie appeared from behind a curtain as Veronica made her way up the steps to the stage.

"Better close your mouth or you'll catch flies." Betty said nudging me slightly.

I didn't realise my mouth was open but it wasn't surprising my jaw had dropped. Josie was dressed in a sparkly golden skirt and a black crop top. Her hair was up in a bun with two strands of her hair hanging perfectly on both side of her face along with cat ears sitting perfectly on top of her head.

She began to dance around with Veronica and during the song, Josie gestured with her finger for me to go over to her.

I got up on stage with her and she placed her free arm around my shoulders as she continued to sing. She turned around, pressing her back against me and began to grind herself on me, causing me to burst out laughing. She turned around again and smiled at me. I spun her around and pulled her in for a side hug.

I was having such a good time...Until my eyes landed on someone standing by the bar, their arms crossed.

I waved but they quickly turned around and walked out of the club. I jumped off the stage and ran after them.

"Wait." I shouted once we were both outside.

"Stay away."

"Cheryl, please. Can we just talk about it?"

"No. You are a monster and you should be locked up."

"I'm not a monster. You think I want to be like this? Because I don't. I hate what it's done to us...You're my closest friend."

"Is that so? It seems you're doing fine without me."

"I'm not. I'm really not."

"Sure. Have fun with your bitch."

With that, she quickly turned around and walked away, leaving me alone. I lowered my head as my eyes filled with tears.

Why did it have to be her?
