Maxine's POV

Two Months Later

Two months after the incident at Pops, not much happened. I stayed out of Cheryl's way, we switched partners in English while working on modernizing Romeo and Juliet which I was thankful for, I didn't have to put any effort into such a shitty love story.

Instead of focusing on school, I focused on The Serpents. I did some work for them, it was the only way I could properly stay out of Cheryl's way.

Not that it changed how I felt about her. In fact, my feelings for her only grew the more time I spent away from her. I didn't know that could truly happen, but I guess it can.

The snow had arrived earlier than intended and it came down heavy. Whilst the teen Serpents were at school and the adult Serpents that had jobs, were at work, I shoveled snow from the path and in the parking spaces for the bikes outside the Whyte Wyrm.

I enjoyed this weather, the cold felt so much nicer on my skin but I was still wrapped up, I didn't want to actually freeze.

"Hey Max."

I pushed my beanie upwards as I looked up to see Josie walking towards me.

"Hey." I smiled as I stood up straight.

She pecked my lips once she was in front of me and then took my hand and led me inside. I placed the shovel against the wall and closed the door behind us before removing my hat, scarf and gloves.

Josie did the same and handed them to me to put them with mine along with her jacket.

When I turned around, Josie jumped on me and wrapped her legs around my waist. I held on to her legs as she captured her lips with mine.

I was surprised when she broke the kiss and removed herself from my body.

"What's wrong?" I asked curiously.

"I need to ask you something and I'm kinda nervous."

She sat down on the arm of one of sofas and began to play with fingers. I crossed my arms as I patiently waited for her to ask whatever it was that she wanted to ask.

She tried speaking a few times but she would stop herself. I had never seen Josie like this before.

"Okay there's no real easy way for me to ask." She stood up straight and took a step towards me, she grabbed my hands and took a deep breath. "I like you, Maxine. I like you a lot and we're the same...We're...Not human...And..I...I don't want what we have to just be sex." She looked away and bit her lip. She looked back at me and I tilted my head slightly. "I want it to be more than sex. I wanna hold your hand in public and kiss you whenever just because why not. When we do have sex, I want it to mean something."

"Josie, what are you trying to say or ask?"

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

There was no denying that I felt something for her. She was incredible. She was kind. She was funny and she was beautiful. I didn't want to use her to get over my feelings for Cheryl...But if I felt even the smallest thing for Josie, would I still be using her? Surely not because I would be acting on my feelings.

I looked into her eyes, giving her a smile as I nodded my head. "Yes, I'll be your girlfriend."

I could literally see the relief wash over her. A smile of her own spread across her face as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

She pulled back with her arms still around my neck as she captured my lips in a tender kiss.

Suddenly, the door burst open causing us to jump apart. I turned around to see Veronica and Archie stood there breathing heavy.
