Maxine's POV

My eyes shot up and I quickly rolled over, landing hard on the cold wooden floor. I groaned in pain as I used the bed to pull myself up, thankfully I didn't completely lose my balance.

I looked around and noticed I was back in my room at Thistle House. I looked down and saw a bandage going around my stomach.

My legs felt wobbly but I had to get to Cheryl. I slowly staggered towards the door and quickly rested my hands on it to maintain my balance. My stomach hurt like crazy.

I gripped on to the door handle and turned it quickly and opened the door, using the doorframe to keep my balance.

I heard Penelope's distant voice coming from downstairs. Along with FP's and Alice's.

I used the wall for support as I slowly made my way towards Cheryl's room. My vision began to get blurry and I felt weaker.

My legs gave out and I landed hard on my knees. I tried to stand but it was physically impossible.

I heard loud footsteps running up the stairs and when I looked up, I saw a blurry FP kneeling down.

"What are you doing Max?" He sighed as he gently helped me to my feet. "You should be in bed resting."

"Move." Is all I replied with, weakly pushing him out of the way.

I barely managed to make it Cheryl's room and when I did, my heart broke at what I managed to see through my blurry vision.

She was curled up into a ball and she was shaking.

I walked over to bed and sat down beside her. FP gave me a sad smile before closing the door, leaving us alone.

"Cheryl."

I watched as her eyes slowly opened and she looked at me, confused.

"Why are you here? You should be resting." She said, her voice coming out croaky from the crying. She shuffled towards the other end of the bed, allowing me to climb in next to her.

"I had...Had...I had to make sure you were okay." I said tiredly as my head hit the pillows. My eyes began to close but I tried to keep them open. "Do...You...Remember anything?"

"I only remember trying to get Nick off of me...It felt like I was trying but I really wasn't moving. It sounded like I was screaming at him...But it was nothing but mumbles and whispers."

I weakly moved towards her and wrapped my arm around her. She layed in my arms, her head on my chest. Her arm gently draped just below my stomach.

"I'll kill him."

"He nearly killed you."

"Hmm. A...A...Lot of..People..Nearly have, but I'm still here."

"Barely."

She sighed and I used my other hand to gently turn her head upwards to look at me.

"You...Don't...Remember anything before what happened...With Nick?"

"No...Why? What happened."

"Y-You.." Tiredness was winning the battle and I was about to fall asleep.

"What did I do?" Cheryl asked curiously. "Maxine, what did I do?"

My body was so relaxed, I was safe, so was she, I could willingly sleep happily knowing she was okay.

Cheryl's POV

I sat up and looked down at Maxine as she was slipping in and out of consciousness. I was desperate to know what I did.
