73: Back To Blue Side

"Hoseok-ah,"

"Can you hear me? Hobi!"

"Hyung please....hyung,"

All four of you look helplessly at the lying body of Hoseok. He's drenched, looking completely wet and forlorn. His hair lies damp across his face and his eyes are closed. His body doesn't move and chest stays still. You watch as Jungkook shakes him frantically, growing as scared as you are while Taehyung tries to find his words, tears clodding his throat.

"He..he was just there...floating downstream," he stammers, voice cracking as he speaks. "He wasn't moving...he-"

"Step aside," Yoongi says suddenly serious. You, Taehyung, and Jungkook look at him a little surprised as you'd never heard Yoongi sound this straightforward. Seconds before he was teasing you and making dirty jokes but right now all of that was disappeared. Right now none of that mattered anymore. His are as hard as stone as he moves closer to Hoseok.

"Hyung..." Taehyung begins again. "What are yo-"

"Move," Yoongi growls. Taehyung obeys at once and the path is cleared for Yoongi. You all makes space for him curious and too shooketh to know what to do anymore. You feel Taehyung lean into you, the closest person beside him. He's trembling, shaking like no other and you can't imagine what it must have been like for him to carry...a dead body?... all the way here. You clutch onto Taehyung as he trembles, feeling his fear transfer through your skin and heighten your senses.

"Taehyung-ah, you need to go," Yoongi commands as he leans over Hoseok. "We don't know what happened to Jin, Namjoon or Jimin. They may be in the same state for all we know."

At those words, your heart hurts a little. You look at Taehyung who is staring incredulously at Yoongi unable to digest all of this in the first place. He wanted to stay, he didn't want to be alone and you could sympathize with that. "B-but hy-"

"Kim Taehyung," Yoongi addresses him again by his full name, showing that he is dead serious. "You need to be brave here and you know you're the only who can do it. Don't worry about him...I promise." Yoongi adds. "I won't let him die."

Taehyung nods reluctantly, as he opens his wings again. Somehow, he could trust Yoongi, despite all the odds. He didn't take long to leave, not wanting wait before he could change his mind.

Yoongi gets to work at once as well. He kneels down, places both hands on his chest, right on his heart and towers over the man's face looking to see for any signs of death. He was cold from the flood but Yoongi knew, he just knew, that Hoseok could still be revived. He was alive in there. And he was going everything he could to save him.

Yoongi pushes with his hands. He pumps Hoseok's heart from above, right palm pressing firmly against the back of his left hands as he hits hard, pumping with all his might. He grits his teeth, pushing harder and harder, growing desperate as he attempts to kick the life back into Hoseok. You watch, tears clouding your vision as Yoongi, muscles clenching from the effort pumps more and more to save him.

But nothing happens. He doesn't move. He doesn't gasp and come to life, or writhe or move his fingers like heart attack victims. He remains still, so still that sleep could not mimick. You swallow, feeling the huge lump in your throat. No....no....this could not be true. You look to the side as see a tear trickle down Jungkook's expressionless face. Yoongi presses his lips firmly together as he mumbles. "Come on...come on."

It was the most heartbreaking thing you had ever witnessed.

And then Yoongi removes his hands. He doesn't look at any of you, knowing that one glance at the witnesses could rob any willpower he had for what he was about to do next. Navy training prepared him for all sorts of things. He'd never thought it would come down to this yet he was surprisingly more confident than he thought he would be. Right now, he didn't give one single damn.
