[Looong chapter lets go]
You stare at the empty wall in front of you for what seems like the hundredth time. Another countless night where you couldn't sleep. The routine was sickening. You'd lie like a genie in your sleeping bag, hoping to get comfortable and fall asleep. Yet all you could think about was the awful fact that you were facing the ground, strapped to the ceiling like some sacrifice. On top of it, after that accident with Hoseok unbalancing the spacecraft, you were anxious about going accidents when you were. topsy turvy You'd begged the guys over and over again to switch spots or tried to bet them into it but they refused every time, knowing that you had the worst chamber. It was really hellish luck to be sleeping here...
no. it wasn't just that. It wasn't just the fact that you were sleeping on the ceiling. It was that this place was so metallic, unloving, unfriendly, unlively and so, so small. You sometimes pondered how Namjoon could fit his tall, lean body into such a cramped space. Or how any of them did for the matter of fact. Did they fold themselves up, cuddling into their bodies?
It was like a coffin and even if you left the door open to "let in some air" it did nothing to change the fact the air was not actually "air" and the scenery was different. You missed proper oxygen from trees. You missed sleeping in a house on a comfortable bed with pillows and blankets. You missed the sound of the night: birds, crickets, wind, snoring.
It was just dead silent here.
How did astronauts do it? Did they get used to it? Would you get used to it? You didn't even know if it was night, or the time to sleep. How could you feel tired without knowing so? It could be two o clock in the afternoon at home for all you knew and it disturbed you. You sigh, turning over in your sleeping bag, reaching for your earphones to put on some instrumentals to ease the sound of emptiness. Eventually you would asleep, you knew you would. It just the restlessness part before it that killed the mood. Again, how did the others do it?
The others ...
Your eyes open softly as you think of the boys. Were they still up? How did they fall asleep so fast? You lean back in frustration realizing you couldn't even boil some warm milk. The annoyance melts into a little warmth as you remember that cold night when the soulmates had come to keep you company. Highly inappropriate, definitely uninvited, rude, inexcusable, shameless but—
a smile spreads across your face. Jimin's back pressed against your arm as he curls up into a ball on his own side, knees against his chest. Taehyung, mouth open with an arm resting over his head like he was posing for a picture. The way they tugged on the blanket between themselves, snuggled deeper under it and their soft breaths bringing you comfort. You missed that. It wasn't just that...you just wanted everyone together. Not locked up in little alcoves like equipment. If you could just-
ah finally, this is perfect.
Jungkook. Your eyes widen a little as you remember him. He was still awake? What was he doing?
Jungkook .
You try to reach out to him but he doesn't reply. Did he fall asleep? You wait a while for his response and then shrug it off. He was ignoring you, wasn't he? He probably just wanted to sleep. Maybe he was tired.
Or maybe something happened to him. What if he was stuck somehow and couldn't respond? What if he wasn't thinking ... because he couldn't? He could have forgotten to strap himself in and was perhaps floating around in his sleep. Or maybe he'd shut himself in too tight that he'd limited his oxygen access, or tripped a knob and was slowly fainting.
No, stop. Nothing like that had happened. He was sleeping for sure. He had to be. You were just overthinking it. He was not that dumb to—no he was. He'd try any risky, stupid thing in his chamber if he was bored or couldn't sleep. What if he'd just innocently touched something, tired himself out and fallen asleep not realizing he'd done something vital?
