"It's so beautiful," Jungkook murmurs for the hundredth time. "It's so pretty oh my god I don't think I'll ever forget it."
"You won't," Taehyung agrees, turning to give Jungkook a solemn stare."But can you focus on the task?"
You sigh through the microphone. It was even more impossible to focus or find anything out here. One star was multiplied by millions and it wasn't like you could pluck them out of their locations or point them out. Like from inside, they did not differ from one another. On top of it, as Taehyung had wanted, your scope had widened so much that you almost had an entire 360° view of the whole universe. Black and black forever on and with the endless sparks of light taunting from the distance. It was breath-taking in its simplicity, and it made you want to wander the endless dark. And somewhere in this dark, you had to find home.
"What task?"
"Connect the dots," you explain tiredly gesturing slowly to the expanse in front of you. "But there are too many dots."
"We can do it," Taehyung says confidently. "I'll find a constellation, I know I will. It's the only way. It's the only way we can find our way home."
"That star there is kinda big," you point out in a different direction. You couldn't exactly say east or west because nothing manmade qualified up here. "You think...it could be...The Sun?"
Taehyung turns in the direction you'd suggested. Among the flickering lights one stood out, unblinking and much larger. If you held your hand up, it covered the size of your fist. You gulp, not knowing if you should be feeling hot suddenly by being so close to the Sun. It was magnificent to think about because it was the only sole thing that you were familiar with out here. A golden glowing ball of fire.
"Wow," you breathe. "I never expected I'd see it like this."
"We got a heating warning didn't we?" Taehyung figures. "It could be."
"Let's go check it out then," Jungkook says excitedly, swimming in that direction. You and Taehyung immediately grab his cord lunging him back between the both of you. He had grown too restless doing nothing in the ship and he overconfident for having made it to space, he was up for any risk which was a great danger to the rest of you.
"Are you crazy? You want to die?" you shout at him through the microphone.
"We can't go that far, we have to stay close to the ship," Taehyung warns Jungkook. "Unless we move the ship closer we wouldn't be able to anyway. What we need to do now is to study...these stars." He gestures to the never-ending galaxy around all of you. "Don't fool around."
Jungkook looks away a little disheartened as you crash you let go of his chord warily, suspicious of his future actions. He was an unpredictable man which gave situations like these more of an edge. It was like unleashing your dog in the middle of the road.
Like unleashing wh-
"You cover that area," Taehyung speaks up suddenly diverting your attention for your sake. "I'll look this way. Jungkook on that side, then."
The three of you disperse further into your allocated directions, giving each other some distance to think and move without bumping into one another unnecessarily. As they move away, you feel a little isolated but try not to let it get over you. Wow, how would you go back to living alone after all of this if you couldn't separate for even just a little bit? Things were going to change incredibly once you were back home. First, to go back home. You find your first target, staring deeply at the star so as to imprint it into your mind. Its location, its shape, its figure, its glow...you'd have to memorize all of them like this in order to be able to differentiate and match. Was this one part of a constellation? Was it a planet, a meteoroid, a comet, a moon, a sun....you would never find out. There was too much discover and too little you.
