"Dad you need to talk to auntie Karla about Sunday she was completely out of line for speaking to Kelis that way. That's my girl and I love her. She's going to be around a lot and I'm not going to allow someone who comes around 10 years after my mom died to speak to her that way." My dad sat down at the table with his plate of breakfast and I sat across from him stealing a piece of bacon from his plate.

He tried to pop my hand but I pulled it back. "Go fix your own food you big oomph and stop eating off my plate. I did talk to Karla. She sees no wrong in what she did. She said she was just starting friendly conversation. I told her she can't do that and you know she started playing the victim and crying so I hung up on her."

I stood up shaking my head and walked over to the stove and grabbing another piece of bacon. "Artie told me she was just around us now because grandma is in assisted living now and she lost the house in Stamford. She's not living here is she?" My dad's head shot up he had a furious expression on his face. "They lost the house?!" He stood up slamming his hands on the table. "That fucking drunken fool took out a second mortgage I bet! I worked my ass off to fix that house for momma and she lost it by what? Gambling? Drinking? That house was paid off way before your grandmother went into assisted living." He left the kitchen table walking off quickly to his office.

After my mom passed my dad worked so hard and worked so many long days to support a growing adolescent and a toddler. After he and my stepmom met she taught him to save and invest. Now he's sitting on a nice savings and he manages a few office buildings janitorial staff.  With my dad being a Christian man he helped pay bills at my biological mom mothers or my grandmothers house and paid off her mortgage so he is upset for very valid reasons.

"I told your father to have her move out but he wanted to keep her with her mother since she had the stroke but your father will get that house back." My stepmom spook up from the other side of the table. "But love Ryan? You love Kelis?" I nodded my head grinning from ear to ear. "I do momma she is everything I have ever dreamed of and she makes me smile. Every time I see her I get more excited than the last. She gets along with the most important people in my life. I'm a hit with her family."

She gave me a toothless smile grabbing my hand. "You sound just like your father. I really want to see you and Kelis prosper so don't let anyone or anything get in the way of that. You have to take the good, the bad and especially the ugly. I see Kelis bringing the brightness to your eyes. You look at her the same way your father looks at me. I can see you guys going all the way." She sat up confidently as she spoke.

I blinked a few times taking in her words. "You do?" She nodded finally giving me a full smile. "I have a niche for these things." She stood up kissing my forehead. "Where is Kelis anyways?" She placed her coffee cup in the sink. "She's trying on dresses for her sister's wedding then we are meeting nearby for lunch. I actually have to get going to beat this traffic." I kissed her cheek and shouted bye to my dad as I walked out. "See you in class tomorrow momma. Love you." She waved repeating my words.
