As Amilia walked out of school for the day she saw someone familiar on the corner. She stopped a moment before opening her car door. The person looked over to her and waved. As soon as she knew it the person was running to her.
"Amilia, Ami!" She screamed coming closer. Finally she arrived by Amilia's side.
"Hey!" Amilia said shaking her hand. "Good to see you, are you on break?"
"Yeah we are for a little while, so I thought I might as well surprise you."
"This is a surprise, a good one. How are you Soka?"
"I'm good, how bout you?"
"Eh, it could be better. Why don't you get in I can drive you back to the house." Soka got into the car as well as Amilia did.
"You close to your school?"
"Oh, yeah. Only a few minutes, if that." And it was only that, a few minutes. They both went inside and Amilia set her bag down by the stairs like always. "How long you here for, Soka?"
"A few days, I believe three or four. It's a long drive back to Concord."
"Yeah, a very long time, about a day isn't it?"
"Yes, somewhere around there."
"You have a place to stay?"
"Yup. I got a nice hotel a little ways past your school."
"That's good, are you here by yourself?" She laughed.
"Yeah, I'm eighteen too, you know. I can drive past nine!"
"Hey, me too!" They both laughed. They relaxed a bit, with both of them sitting on the couch watching TV. They chatted of course, caught up about the past year. They usually see each other once a year, even for a few hours. They would call and text too.
"So, what's been going on?" Soka said out of the blue.
"What do you mean?"
"We haven't really chatted much this year. Gosh, it must be months since I've talked to you."
"Oh, that." Amilia paused. She moved and became uneasy. "I've just been... busy. Very, very busy. Things come up and I can't ignore them, you know how it is."
"Really? I didn't think the guys down in the Market would work you so hard. Last time I was here, well, Oglm was pretty nice!"
"Oh he is, it's not him."
'Then who is it?"
"Other people." Amilia shrugged getting up and going into the kitchen. Soka followed, of course.
"Other people, huh? Fine, I'll leave it there." They stopped talking and became uneasy. "You, busy tonight?"
"No, not particularly. Thought I might spend these next few days with you, you know, so long as you're here."
"Well good then. Man, you better call me at least once a week. I like talking with you, girl." She lightly thrusted Amilia on the arm.
"You got your license, right?"
"Yeah."
"Good. I saw a place on my way in, how's bout' you and me go check it out?"
"Sure, I'm down. Taking my car?"
"Hope so, I left mine at your school. Hope I don't get a ticket or a tow." Amilia laughed.
"Yeah, me too. Don't want that on your record."
"Ah, I've already had a few. You know, a few speeding tickets." They both laughed again. When they came back for the night they went to watching a sort of marathon. It was overly fun, they kept laughing and laughing. It felt great that Amilia didn't have to be anywhere too specific. Now, she always glanced at the clock, but she didn't let the time bother her too much. It was about seven at night. Finally the marathon ended around eleven, I want to say. But anyway, Amilia and Soka got into the car and Amilia drove her back to her hotel. It was a decent drive from her house, actually.
"How are you going to get your car?"
"Oh I'll just 'walk.' " She paused and smiled before she got out. "You know," she started. "The nights still young."
"What are you suggesting?"
"You want to go on patrol with me? It'll be fun."
"Oh, ho ho." Amilia laughed. "Where do I park?" They both laughed again.
"Go over there in the back. We won't be out too long." Amilia went around and parked. They both got out. "Mason made you a suit."
"He did?"
"Yeah, said you could keep it." They both got changed and then went out on their patrol. "Here's a mask." Soka started. "If someone sees you with me they'll ask you questions. Remember, it's Full Eclipse so long as we're on patrol, and you, you can be Marked. It goes along with your theme."
"Oh what a creative name." Amilia said putting on the mask.
"Hey, at least Frost isn't here."
"Thank god." Soka took off up into the sky and Amilia followed her on the ground. To say the least, Amilia's friend Soka was a superhero. Soka had gotten into an accident and was given superhuman abilities, like flying and being able to control fire and water. Soka has a better handle on her powers now than she had six years ago, which was good, but they still aren't fully controlled. "I see you got a new costume as well. Not as flashy as your old one."
"Yeah. Maison thought it'd be better to have a darker costume for better stealth."
"That explains why mine is so dark."
At almost midnight their patrol had ended and they parted ways for the night. Amilia drove back to the house and went inside.
"I missed you today." Amilia heard once she walked in.
"Yeah I know."
"Where were you, I was quite lonely."
"With a friend."
"And that's an excuse to leave poor Unora all alone for the night?"
"Yeah, it is."
"And what would dear Akxfo think of that?" Amilia stopped moving and leaned on the counter.
"Look." Amilia bluntly said. "You've been overworking me. I need time to myself. Time I can spend having fun, or do you not want me to be happy?"
"Happiness has nothing to do with it, but" she paused, "you are worn out, I always see this." She put her hand to her chin. "Four times a week, what days do you want?"
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday."
"Oh, hey, Nora, Amilia."
"Hey Oglm." Amilia said.
"Don't mind me Mr. Ozedk, I was just about to head home." Oglm walked into his office with a sheet of paper in his hand. "I'll see you tomorrow darling. I look forward to your visit."
