Amilia walked into school the next morning, what a relief it was to be back. Having been weeks since she last attended her high school. Leo greeted her on the way in.
"Welcome back." he started. "Got all your homework?" Amilia pulled out a massive stack of papers.
"Yup." she stated to him.
"Well good luck." Leo said patting her on the back. "I've gotta get to the gym." he said as he waved goodbye. Amilia walked into the english classroom and set her bag down at a desk. The stack of papers followed.
"Hey, look whos back." Elsie said approaching her. "So you got all that fancy homework done?"
"Yeah. it's all right here."
"Good." she said chuckling before sitting down.
"What?" Amilia said in question. Elsie looked at her and shrugged. "You and Leo both said something along those lines." she pointed to Elsie. "And you both chuckled."
"Just sit down, you'll see." Amilia sat down. The bell rang to begin class.
"Good morning class." Amilia took her chin off her hand and looked at the teacher, then she hit her head with her hand.
"He just had to come back." She whispered to herself.
"Today you will pick an important memory from your lifetime and use a dictionary please, we are not savage." he said as he held a dictionary. "Thats includes you, Miss. Cripple. I know how bad your spelling can be." he walked over to her desk. He placed the dictionary on it. "And your grammar." he grabbed a thesaurus and placed it on top of the dictionary. "I find it in your best interest to use them. You do want to pass my class."
"Uh, excuse me, but what happened to Mrs. Denece?"
"She retired while you were out on injury. So as i was on call, i am now your permanent english teacher." he walked over to Amilia. "Your mother also wants me to keep an eye on you." he whispered to her. He tapped her empty paper and then started to walk away. "Get to work Miss. Cripple."
Elsie laughed.
"Anything to add Miss. Huff?"
"No sir." she responded back. Amilia started to write and would occasionally look up to the front desk. The bell rang to end first period and as always everyone rushed out of the room. As Amilia grabbed the handle the 'new' teacher stopped her.
"Miss. Amilia Cripple." he said slowly. "Front and center." he tapped his pen on his desk. Amilia silently groaned and then went to his desk. "Set your things down and pull up a chair." she did as she was told. "So you've had quite a few weeks, correct?" Amilia shook her head to him. "I haven't given you too much homework, have i?"
"It's enough." she chuckled.
"So, what is the true story?" he paused as he watched her confusion. "Your mother says that your trainer did this to you. She is quite concerned that you will be going back to training with Akxfo."
"She is?"
"Yes." he chuckled. "I know she does not look or act it, but she is very smart and skilled. She has an excellent mind and a beautiful spirit. If your father hadn't stolen her heart years ago, i would have." he paused. "But things became what they did. Anyways, what is your story?"
"It-it, was, uh, uhno-, yeah it was Akxfo." she said. Amilia hugged herself at the arms. "He got a scrape on the wall and went berserk, you know, typical Akxfo stuff." she shrugged her shoulders. He sighed.
"Is that so?"
"Yeah, that's everything Mr. Beath." He smiled at her.
"Come see me if you need to." he said putting his hand onto her's. He wrote her a pass to her next class. "Don't overstress yourself. Especially with this." he said pointing up and down her body. Amilia smiled as she stood up. She shook his hand and then left his classroom and to her next class, math.
