Kayline McKenzieInstead of heading back to dinner, Kayline returns back to her room. She has to plan her mission and fill in all of the paperwork and missing pieces. She closes the door behind her and leans against it. She's let out a small breath.
But before Kayline could even push off the door, Chris barges in with a crazy look on her face. Kayline yelps as Chris grabs her wrist and pulls her to the center of the room. Chris' hair is still wet from the shower and a few droplets hit Kayline in the eye. She blinks a couple of times, trying to get used to the stinging.
Chris goes right in Kaylines face. She leans away from her, telling her, Back off I need space! She gets the message and backups a little bit.
" So..." she searches my eyes looking for something.
" What?" Kayline asks. She knows that Chris is wondering what the Boss wanted. She just wants to put off that conversation as long as possible. Chris rolls her eyes. They seem to say, what am I going to do with this girl?
" The Boss! What did she want?" Chris says with excitement. Well, that didn't last long, Kayline thinks to herself. She turns her back to Chris and goes to her closet. What can she say to her? The Boss made it perfectly clear not to tell her anything. And... she's never lied to her.
Chris knows everything about Kayline. She has seen her lie. She knows what it looks like. They way Kayline's eyes become sharp, her fingers clench and the bad habit of biting the inside of her cheek. She will know, the second Kayline lets out one word.
" Um, Chris. Look, I want to tell you, I really do but-"
" She doesn't want you to tell me, does she? It's confidential isn't it?" Chris says with a small tone of disappointment. Chris flips down onto Kayline's bed. Her face looks plain. She's not smiling but not frowning either. Her faces is completely stoic. Kayline lets her breath go. She feels darker and she knows that she can't do this without Chris. But she has to.
" Christina, I am so sorry. I wish you could do this one with me, but- but I-" Kayline starts to say, but Chris interrupts her.
" Woah, Woah, slow down their cowgirl." Kayline looks at her with confusion for the metaphor. She hops off the bed, the stoic girl gone from existence and now a bubbly brunette thesaurus is in her place.
" I'm fine, see." She stretches her arm in front of her, showing that no harm has come to her. But Kaylin's gut feeling is that she is still not okay.
" Christina, are you sure?" Kayline asks again. Chris rushes up to her and takes her hands in hers.
" Kayline, I'm going to be fine. This is your chance, your play! You can finally do all of this stuff on your own, without me messing up your plans or yelling in your ear." Chris said. Those words actually hurt Kayline. Chris won't be there to mess up her plans. Even though it's slightly annoying, she knows she is going to miss it.
" But, Chris that is why my plans always worked. You were there to mess them up! I don't know about this. And I certainly don't want to leave you behind." Kayline tries to debate.
