The Red Cross to Bare
Kayline McKenzie

This plague... this just couldn't end the kingdom, this could end the world. Only the strong would last the longest before disappearing into nothing. Kayline grabs some notes from the desk, hoping they mean something.

An alarm stars to go off. The alarm is blaring and soldiers and scientists are running back and forth. The once white light surrounding the cave, now shines with red, filling the cave with a dark and bloody landscape. Kayline's hair stands up on her arms. She is still holding Mrs. Alberstons. She can't leave her here. It's just wrong. But she has too. Kayline closes her eyes.

Breathe in. No feelings. Breath out. No regrets. Okay...go! She runs out of the tent and starts to make her way over to the cells.

All she needs to do is get Micheal, grab Magdalene and get out of here. She makes her way out of the science tents and comes to a small opening. Kayline knocks out one guy, grabs his gun and key card and tries to find Micheal Alberstons cell. A couple of guards run toward her, but she shoots them. She zigzags her way through tent after tent. The alarm rings through her head. She-She can't focus. Information goes through one ear and out the other, her mind barely processing what is going on.

A man grabs Kayline's ankle. She moves to shake him off, but she is stunned into silence. His face. His cheeks seem if they have been melted off. His eye lids have drooped low, covering his eye, which was bleeding. His skin hanging off the bone. Kayline throws up in her mouth. She manages to shake him off and she shoots him in the stomach.

As Kayline walks down Micheal's cell, she sees more dead soldiers on the floor. Bodies decayed. They've been attacked by the plague. Kayline can't stop to think if she has it.

         If she's a victim.

She keeps running. She runs in sync with the sound of the alarm. The noise keeps entering into her skull, pounding, reminding her of what is actually happening. The red blurs her vision, seeing shadows and letting her imagination and nightmares come to life. When the alarm goes quiet, it is replaced with screams hidden from the scream of the alarm. Men and Women running and screaming. When the alarm returns, it blurs out all noise.

Kayline finally makes it to an opening, free of tents or cages. She almost to the cages but then she sees a guard trying to get into a vehicle. She rushes towards him, yank him out of the drivers seat, and put three slugs into his chest. There is no way that Kayline can let anyone out of this place with the chance that they have the plague. She frantically searchs for an answer. How can she stop everyone from getting out? Her eyes stop their search when they land on some boxes.

Please be explosives. Please be explosives. She runs up to the boxes and rips the top off. Darn it. Just chemicals. Where would she find explosives? The Weapons tent!

Kayline rushes back to the car and drive to the other side of the cave. Kayline hops out and makes her way to what she guesses is the weapons tent. If she can get some explosives back to the chemicals, she can blow this place to pieces, and hopefully keep the plague contained.

She hears shots fire and she ducks down to the ground behind some boxes and crates. Kayline lets out a couple of rushed breaths, her mind running million miles per minute. She needs to blow up this cave and hopefully everyone in it. The entire world will be dead if this plague makes it out. She looks through the witness holes in her magazine to see how many bullets she has left. Only five.
