Boogie or Book It
Kayline McKenzie" I look ridiculous." Chris says over the comms. Kayline sees her sister across the dance floor, acting like a damsel in distress. Pretty and perfect as usual.
Men all around Chris give her a passing glance, and some just stare. Her hair is up in a fancy bun, with a few strands of hair in her face. Small white pearls decorate her brown hair, complementing the contrast of colors. Her lavender dress brings a softness to her eyes.
" Nonsense. Your beauty bewitches all that's in the room." Noah says in a badly done English accent. Kayline is arm in arm with him. Noah is escorting her to the dance floor. Kayline does admit, Tracy has good taste, but it's hard to walk and dance. And let's just pray that they won't have to fight anytime soon. Chris snickers on the comm.
" Says you, Mr. Darcy- oh wait, someone is coming." As Noah spins Kayline around, she catches the sight of Chris being asked to dance. Right on time, Kayline thinks to herself.
The ambience of the environment takes Kayline's breath away. They are at the towns square, surrounded by light and music. The strings of violins and cellos combine together to bring a smooth aura. There are people arm in arm dancing and twirling around with classic tuxedos and dresses. The Town Square is right next to the City Hall, where the building holds different activities for the night, and where Kayline is guessing where the Doctor is going to be.
Kayline ends up back in Noah's arms and they sway back and forth. Her hand is on Noah's shoulder, and the other is in his hand. He is careful not to pull on Kayline's injured arm too much. She guesses he is kind... that way.
His face is so serious. His cheekbones seem more prominent, and his cherry lips are too scrunched up. But his blue eyes, carry something more. Kayline tries not to laugh, it's his first time trying all of this spying stuff. Kayline gets closer and lays her head on his shoulder. It feels kind of awkward wrapping her arms around his neck, but she's just playing a part... right?
Kayline can feel Noah's shoulders tense. Then relax, as he wraps his arms around her waist.
" I know things are hectic right now, but you need to remain calm. This is a party, and at parties, you are supposed to have fun. Where is that refreshing yet annoying demeanor you always have?" Kayline whispers into his ear. She feels his chest rise and fall as he chuckles. His warm breath brushed against her bare neck, giving her spine a shiver.
" You're right. I wanted to apologize. I was acting like a jerk recently-" Kayline pulls back to look at his stunning eyes again. They hold remorse.
" Noah, you weren't acting like a jerk at all." Kayline reassures. I thought girls were supposed to be complicated ones, Kayline thought to herself. He shakes his head.
" No, the way I stormed out, and left you to go alone, when you clearly needed help-"
" Noah. I know you feel this way, but you don't need, too." Kayline lets out a sigh and tries to keep her voice down.
" Look, your case is special. In the history of The Dark Moon Academy, no one had ever told anyone else we exist. No one outside has ever known. We are full of orphans, victims, and prizes. By telling you, I was not only lucky to get kicked off the mission, but I was lucky to walk away with my life and also yours. What you are going through, is what we always go through. Believe it or not, since The Boss didn't kill you, that means she recruited you." Noah eyebrows scrunch up.
