Chapter 23

But I'm human
Kayline McKenzie

Kayline throws Magdalene over her shoulders and runs to the van. Micheal shoots a couple of guys who come their way. When Kayline gets closer to the van, Micheals eyes go wide when he realizes how small and young Magdalene really is. Micheal tell her to give Magdalene to him and Kayline gently sets her on his lap.

Micheal holds Magdalene in the front seat as Kayline runs around the van, hops in the front seat, turns on the engine and steps on the accelerator. Bullets bounce off the van. Kayline pushes the accelerator all the way to the floor and anything that comes in her way, bounces off.

    Kayline follows a tunnel that she has no idea where it goes. She's hoping that it's the entrance Mrs. Alberston and her were at first, but based on Kayline's luck scale, it can get risky.

    They are in a long hallway now, with rock at the end. Kayline looks up to the sun visor and prays that's there is some sort of garage door opener somewhere. Kayline presses all the buttons and luckily one does the trick. The rock slowly opens up, but based on how fast she is driving, she would crash. Kayline looks behind them and sees some people running towards the exit.

    " Shoot." Kayline says to herself. Micheal swings his head at her and looks in the rear view mirror then back at Kayline.

    " Shoot? Shoot, what? Why Shoot?" He mumbles. He seems to be better and more awake, but it's just the adrenaline, or the adrenaline that he has left anyway. Kayline points to the makeshift remote for the bomb that is on the center console.

    " That remote. Grab it and push the button." Kayline says. She move the steering wheel slightly to the right, crushing someone against the side of the rocky wall.

    " Why, what does it do-" Micheal protests.

    " Just push it for goodness sakes!" Kayline snaps. They are getting closer to the exit. Hopefully whatever chemicals were in those crates are enough to reach all the way over here. He moves his arm that was underneath Magdalene and grabs the remote. Without another thought he pushes the button. Kayline floors the accelerator even more and they make it out of the exit. Kayline hears a BOOM go through out the entire area. She can feel the boom go through her chest and enter into her heart. Kayline quickly close the rock so that the fire doesn't come out.

    Kayline drives out into the wilderness, expecting light and sun, but the sky's covered in gray and darkness. It's a different area then when Mrs. Alberston and Kayline were here, but she still knows the area. Kayline storms out of there and takes a detour, making sure that she's not being followed. She goes through the forest onto an unknown road, not used by many people. It's close to the mountain side and close to the forest. It was used as a road for the miners before it was shut down, so there should be no traffic. The dirt goes against the side of the van. Kaylines pushing the van about 120 miles per hour, so the dirt flies in front of the windshield.

    Sadly, the odds were not in their favor. Kayline looks in her review mirror and sees another black van coming closer and fast. She doesn't know how someone managed to get out, much less find them. Maybe they have a tracker on the van, she'll have to find it later.

For the first time, Kayline didn't know what to do. She could switch with Micheal and shoot at them but she was driving and Micheal had Magdalene. She couldn't exactly switch without crashing into anything. Plus Micheal is not exactly in a good state.
